Electric Hunting Bike

Just test drove one of the slickest bikes to hit the market. Front wheel drive electric that can be pedaled like a normal bike. I am wondering when they do shut the roads down in the grasslands if this wouldn't work to get where you wanted to set up camp. A buddy of mine took it through a harvested bean field to get to his stand and back last night and it worked great.

Pretty slick looking bike, get a solar charger and you are set for days in the badlands.

Uhh, I suspect that since this thing has an electric motor this is a "motorized" bike, it would not be legal to drive off trail in the badlands with one.

Saw this referenced on a map of the Sheyenne National Grasslands.

On the flip side, some of my in-laws have had street versions of these electric bikes for a few years and from what I can tell they really like them.

I was thinking about the closed roads, just to get to the campsite on those roads. I know it is "motorized", it probably wouldn't be allowed on the Ma Ha Dey trail either. The website for it is www.channelcatoutdoors.com  They are assembled in Grand Forks. They are spendy- $997.00 complete or $697.00 for the electric add-on to your mountain bike.

That thing is awesome!! Would save me alot of miles walking. Just did a little research and I think this law says its considered a bike and not a motorized vehical.

The specs on their web site fall in line with the Fed. law that says its a bike. I'm ordering. Just gonna take a copy of that law with me just in case.

Id rather see it 'trike' style with a shooting rest on the handlebars... Would work great for stalking prairie goats in pea fields!

running at 15-20mph it is suppose to get about 20 miles. It's a 36 volt lithium-ion battery

8x8,  Interesting read you had there.  I note it is directed at limiting state regulations of these though.  That particular passage doesn't seem to define motorized vehicles under federal laws.

I think I would call the Forest Service and try to get a clarification from them before I dropped $900 on this.  It would really suck to be wrong and end up spending a fortune on lawyers only to eventually be found guilty and have a steep fine heeped on top of an already expensive adventure.

Test rode the bike last night and its no joke. Good power for a electiric motor and nothing is gonna hear you coming.  No more sweating hauling my backpack and at 16-17mph on my way out of the stand I should be able to keep the skeeters off my back.

I've used a regular bicycle to get to my stand before. Just down a prairie trail that I normally would have walked but saved some time and energy.

a fig newton would be good. I don't think I have personally ever bought them. Back in highschool I would eat them but haven't had one for a long time.
I am not sure I have ever eaten a York peppermint patty.

so to answer your questions: YES, I would love a fig newtown and a York peppermint patty.

I guess utilizing technology up to the limit of the law is lawful...but probably not for long.

If I can use one in place of a horse out west, I will write the check yesterday.  I am curious to find out the verdict on this.
