Eds Bait

I haven't fished Devils Lake for a few years, but got up last weekend. One morning we were going to hit the bait shop and restock the leeches and pick up some jigs that seemed to be working well.... The last time I was in Devils Lake, Eds bait was well stocked and the guy behind the counter was eager to help us find what we needed and give us the fishing report. This time the shleves were nearly empty and the three young men working didn't have much to offer by way of helping us find what we needed (probably because the shleves were bare!), had no idea on a fishing report, and couldn't tell us where another place to buy tackle was in town..... I bought a few items, several of which were depth finders for slip bobbering. Two either were broke when I bought them or broke in the bag from the bait shop to the lake. Several others fell apart when I tried to use them. I am not sure what happened to this place, but i was a bit disappointed, since Devils Lake is a major walleye fishing destination. Ended up going to another bait shop and getting what we needed.

I also had the same experience with Ed's.  A couple of years ago the store seemed really good.  Now, it's not really worth stopping in.  Things aren't stocked well.  And the stuff that is stocked is so dirty and dusty that I had to wash my hands after picking out a few jigs and bobbers.  Also, the three teenage kids working the counter weren't able to come up with any information on other options/stores for getting fishing supplies in Devil's Lake.  And, no one behind the counter seemed to really know the prices of the items I bought at Ed's.  Hopefully things get better with this store, but until then, I'd recommend going elsewhere for fishing tackle and info.  I'd recommend Pete's bait shop on the east end of Devil's Lake.  You'll find a clean, mostly well-stocked store where you can actually get good fishing information from personable people.

Really, we are starting this crap again, COME ON!
Every year or every couple months someone is bitching about a bait shop in the lake region.

Know what, ya wanna catch some fish,  go out on the lake and move from spot to spot until you catch something, EUREKA!

I stopped in Ed's last week, turned right when I opened the door, walked to the fridge, grabbed a 1/2 lb of leeches turned to the counter,  paid for the leeches and left to catch my limit of fish.  They had what I was looking for I guess.

frankly, i am suprised this thread is still up.  isn't eds still a paid advertiser on this site and doesn't this site keep a pretty tight lid on posts that bash its advertisers?

Jon,

I run a business too. But I don't for a second believe that my guys (and I) don't occasionally need an attitude adjustment or that my biz couldn't do better. Crawling up this person's hinder and assuming your shop is always fully stocked and your boys are always angels and nobody else complains makes it seem like you can't take any negative feedback. Yet you say :"if there's anything I can do to improve my business just let me know". Say what? Somebody just did and you took zero responsibility and flamed him! Your "back at you" attitude has likely trickled down to your employees.

Guy

p.s.
I am SO sure this guy expected two hours of intensive fishing instructions. Give me a break.

p.p.s.
I used to stop by your shop all the time and quit a couple years back... guess why?

Thank you from the guy that complains the most.  You are welcome.  K, bye.

I know a friend of a friend that goes there for bait then shows up 3 hours later with no bait and wobbly legs.

Hello considering the bait shop is under new ownership as of a year ago, maybe you should give it another chance and stop in and see for yourself. I didnt say they were angles i said they work very hard and do everything they can to help the people that come in. But if you have issues with that id appreciate it if you would give me a call to help with your issues you have with my business. The bait shop is fully stocked with bait and tackle, come see for yourself. The first post was not written for help, it was written to bash a business which is unprofessional. It is august so some things are running low, try cabelas or scheels you will run into the same situation. Carrying 50,000 dollars worth of summer tackle isnt a smart thing to do.....Id i would like to thank people who come in again and again...we appreciate your buisness.
