Fished the east end with the kids for about 5 hours saturday feb 4th.  tried 30 to 8 feet of water.  couldn't keep a line down.  the whole area I fished was infested with 6" perch.  even tried tip ups with smelt and the perch would instantly grab the smelt and take off with it poping the flag.  in 20 feet of water the perch would follow jigs from the bottom all the way up to your hole.

The lake looks to be about 20 to 25 feet lower than its peak at 1854 this summer, and the water line has recieded past the cottonwood trees.  The little fish obviously have no where else to hide.  gonna be interesting trying to baitfish this summer.

Went out yesterday on the east end.  It took a while to find them.  When we finally found them, we had three limits of walleye in two hours.  All caught on crawlers in 12 fow.  It was enjoyable to have the lake to ourselves and not playing bumper boats.

Fished mainly back bays in Douglas Bay. Fished all the way back in the bay past the cabin site with only a perch and a northern. Pulled lindys while pitching jigs into shallow water. Water temps 59- 62 degees and very dirty. Tried out closer to main lake where water was a liitle clearer but still nothing. Went all the way west to the Douglas Bay campground road. Nothing . Ended up by campgrounds and caught about a dozen big perch and one slimmer. Kept enough perch for supper. Graphed very few fish  any stops we made. Fished from 3-45 ft. Talked to others on water, all with same results. Probably have to wait till water warms up.

Well, after a good weekend with around 18 hours on the water and every presentation I could think of, there were no walleye's boated! Went out of Pick City and fished mallard island, douglas bay, and a good portion of the southwest shoreline with nothing to report. It was as if we were fishing the dead sea! I found a small northern or two up inb douglas bay, spoted what looked like some nice walleyes in 3 ft or so of water in the trees off of an island but we were unsuccessfull in landing any. Had a few short bites while pitching jigs into the trees and had some action with some bass on spinner baits but overall fishing was very slow. I figured I should have been at audobon which I can report that there were boats at the clean station both friday and sunday as I drove by, didn't see a single boat at the pickcity cleaning station. Apparently I wasn't the only one that found fishing tough!

    Grrrrr......

What's the saying?  When life gives you lemons, make lemonade?  Yeah, well...whatever.

Last weekend I was out with my boat was the casino tourney.  At the end of the last day my boat wouldn't idle.  It worked at quarter, half and full throttle but not idle.  It acted up from no where but at the VERY end of the day it worked.  So, I put in in the shed at home and thought nothing of it.

Ironically, my brother Tanner had his boat down in Garrison at the shop.  They were waiting on the part so I had him bring mine down from New Town.  Never even thought about the hic-cup I had in the casino tourney.  I got down to the lake Friday evening and my brother was out for just over an hour and said it ran fine.  Well, I got to the boat ramp just when they happened to be loading and wouldn't ya know, it would idle (nor start without throttle).

Tinkered with it that night and hoped it would work.  Nope.

So fished the next two days without a boat that could idle.  Managed only four walleyes on Saturday and only one on Sunday (forgot to mention Tanner caught one on Friday).  Fish came from 16 to 44 feet of water.  Sunday really hurt me as I didn't go fish where I would have liked.  You see, the wind was suppose to blow very hard but it didn't.  I guess they weren't kidding when the forecast had 5-20 mph.  Never seen a forecast like that and thought it was just a goof.  Nope, literally the wind would blow 5 mph at times and then blow 20+ at times.  However, it really didn't get all that rough on the water.  I was being responsible and planned for it to get that rough so I ended up fishing areas I have fished before (and don't like).  I don't like them for a reason...they never seem to produce fish.

Oh well, my sister Tessa caught her first walleye in a couple years.  She doesn't get out much and I sure would have liked to put her on more fish.  Same with my mom and brother and MYSELF!  Oh well, my funk this year continues.  Although, talked to a few boats and some had zero, some had one and some had two.  The most I heard caught all weekend was 6 and 8 fish in two different boats.  Sounds like fish were further west in a more consistent clip.

Boat in the shop.  We'll see how expensive it gets....

Went out of Govt Bay at six. Caught 10 stupid shiners all in 30-60' of water. Caught 1 smallmouth in 25' but lost him at the boat when netting and 1 4" perch in 10' of water. Nice fishing day but no walleyes unfortunately.
