Talked to the manager of Lostwood refuge on Thursday evening.  He figures the grouse will be drumming very soon.  This is the second year we have been given an invitation to use the blinds that are set up to watch the grouse.  The birds are used to the blinds and drum and strut within feet of them.  The refuge is open to everyone, simply check in with the office and go enjoy the show.  I enjoy talking with the Leschisions and envy them in their life as wildlife biologists and managers.  I get a few minutes to talk with them after their son finishes my martial arts class.  Always pleasant,  it's fun to hear about the habits of the local wildlife from the people that understand what they see.  From the waterfowl migrations and moose wanderings, to grouse drumming and swans trumpeting they always have something going on at the refuge to talk about.  I'm going to wait until this next storm front passes through to check out the grouse but they assure me its soon.

Where is this place at to watch them?  I've been doing some freelance photos of the outdoors, that would be neat to get them on camera.

Lostwood refuge is north of Stanley on hwy 8 about 20mi. The entrance is well marked, but the local landmark is the old fire tower on the west side of the road just before the entrance.  If you come in from Minot you could run up 52 to 50 and over to 8, would be about an hr run.

Update on our little drummers.  My uncle stopped in today looking for a socket to fix something on the tractor.  Saw the sharptails outside feeding at the house and mentioned he saw them drumming in the east pasture yesterday.  Its time!
