Either are good guns.  I would consider buying something with a shorter barrel though.  If you plan on carrying it into the field its going to get heavy and those extra inches are justs something to get snagged on (branches or whatever).  A 16" barrel will accurately shot as for as a .223 will kill something efficiently.  You will loose about 250-300 fps second over a 20" barrel.

Good luck

DPMS in  my opinion.. I have owned both and like the DPMS better and still own it. The Bushmaster I sold. Just an opinion though.

Weight isn't an issue for me i guess. I carry rem. sendero for my gun's and there pretty heavy gun for most. I've been told not to get the 16' and get at least a 20' for better accuracy. Your probley right.  Thank's

If your looking as in quality, Remington actually owns both DPMS and Bushmaster, as you will see in the remigton R 15 is a DPMS and the R 25 is a Bushmaster. but in length go with the shorther barrel i have a 16" and a 24" the 16" shoots .50"grop at 100 yards, 24" is right there too

I wouldnt go with the 16, extra couple hundred fps plus less muzzle blast makes the added weight worth it.

I think the ideal barrel length would be 18", but I don't know of one that available in .223.  I would definitely go with a 20" barrel over the 24".  I've got the 24, and it is just plain HEAVY.

DPMS vs. Bushmaster is pick your poison IMO, shot both a fair bit.  The Bull 20" from DPMS is lots more bbl than the heavy bbl from Bushy.  I'd not fret twist rate much either, you're so hampered by magazine constraints that the best heavy bullets are of little value.  Pick one, run something 50-55gn and start popping primers like they're free.

What about Remington's R-15?  Are these platforms just as good as a Bushy or DPMS?  I believe they are essentially Bushmaster parts, correct?  Thinking about getting an AR, but not sure which brand to go with, though.  Got any inputs to steer a feller down the right path, Horsager?

Rem R-15=Bushmaster through and through (albiet camo).

My advice to anyone weighing the difference between Bushmaster and DPMS is to look at overall gun weight as that's (IMO) the only real difference between the two.  Pick the one that fits your needs and get some ammo, lots of ammo, lots and lots of ammo as they're more than just "kinda" fun to shoot.  Hardly seems fair to have the kind of accuracy offered by all of them coupled with a rate of fire limited only by your index finger's reflex speed.  Coyotes oughta just unzip and give you the fur while PD's should figure out a method to turn themselves inside out as an AR makes it nearly that easy.

AR's are a horse apiece.  As long as they are mil-spec, and have a decent rep there is nothing to worry about.  Good guns can be had from Colt, Bushmaster, Stag Arms, DPMS, RIA, and Remington just to name a few.  Do a little research on AR15.com.  You will find the answers to any question you can think to ask.

The most obvious answer escaped me 'til now (and I'm embarrassed).  Buy them both so one can always be cooling off.  (grin)

Does anyone have any experience with the Sig556 DMR?  I can't find much info about them through searches.  I am looking at one of these or a Bushmaster Varminter.  Does the 5.56 designation lose accuracy compared to a .223 chamber when using .223 ammo?

Rock River has an 18" heavy barrel model with two stage trigger already installed. Pretty reasonable on gunbroker right now....search for the predator model.
