I doubt it.  I would have to think Obama is a little smarter than that.  I'm sure there is some sort of stipulation in events like this.  But maybe not.  I'm thinking he is safe though.

 I am not sure I understand all of it, infact I am sure I don't but FOX was saying there was something on how Obama words it in conjunction with the UN which could save him but ultimately it would come down to how bad congress feels he violated the law and overstepped his boundries.

I think there is a difference in actual declaration of war and what is going on in Libya.  Although, I must say, I think it is rather odd we don't have more discussion on it at the congressional level but maybe if we are there for extended period of time then it has to go in front of congress?  Not sure.

That's probably the questions being asked by his party and the opposition's party.  I haven't followed any of this so I don't know.  Just thinking freely...that can be dangerous.  Ha ha.

The President is the Commander in Chief.  We have existing agreements with the UN to provide support for UN actions.  I doubt if there is anyhting illegal or Unconstitutional about what was done.

The US didn't do anything.  This is a United Nations action.

Technically, according to the Constitution, what Bush/Congress did was not Constitutional either.  It is the job of Congress to declare war.  They never did any such thing in Iraq or Afghanistan.  The Congress voted and illegally shifted the burden to the President of what to do.  It is not the President's job to declare war.  Essentially, what the Congress did was "pass the buck" to the President.  They did something that in reality should only be done by  Constitutional amendment... they left the decision of whether to declare war to the Executive Branch of government. 

Ron Paul actually tried to get Congress to make an official declaration of war (which he would have voted against) if they were going to go to war in Iraq, but they DID NOT do so.  Essentially, he did not agree with going to war himself, but if we were going to go to war he wanted it to be a Constitutional declaration.  Unfortunately, not too many of the others in Congress care whether the Constitution is followed or not.  No official declaration was made.

What Obama has done is essentially an act of war.  If you think differently, then what would you consider it if some other country or countries declared a "no fly zone" and started patrolling our skies?

On another note, who gives a spit about the United Nations.  If we had any sense as a country, we would demand that the U.S. get out of the U.N. and the U.N. out of the U.S.  We should recognize the U.N.  as having as much authority in the world as my grandmother does... ZERO.

It is definately unconstitutional for the President to completely bypass Congress even for acts such as the strikes on Libya, but "conveniently" after the Patriot Act the President cant pretty much do as he pleases, as long as it involves "terrorism" And yes we do have sanctions with the UN but why are we the ones to always take the lead??

I believe our involvement in WWI and WWII were legit and were justified by congress. Vietnam, Korea, Afghanistan, Iraq, and now Libya were not justified, and guess who got us into those wars...... the President. Might I mention that the war in Afgahanistan has lasted longer than any other American war!!

The President is Commander In Chief but according to the Constitution, war must be declared by Congress. But im sure you are right, there are always loopholes. I just do not like the idea of our involvement in yet another country......... GOOD GRIEF

Bush did the same thing twice so Obama won't be impeached.  However I'm real glad he is so concerned with March Madness during times of nuclear crisis and a new bleeping war. And I completely agree about the United Nations, what a joke.

No way Obama gets impeached.    That would be a historic vote meaning the first President of color to be impeached.

There's plenty of room to argue either side of this.  Apparently, the War Powers Act give the authority and is backed by a unanimous Senate Resolution from March 1.

Ultimately, I don't see any traction for impeachment but plenty of people are worked up about it.  More lefties than righties.

How was Afghanistan not justified after September 11th?

I am not a political expert and I do not want to offend anyone but, eatsleephunt, you tell me how many weapons of mass destruction were found and where is Bin laden.

Our military and allied forces have not been able to disrupt the taliban in afghanistan. Now we are rebuilding their government WHY?? Several countries support and fund terrorism, we need to disrupt the funding of terrorism as a whole instead of occupying countries. That has done nothing to help the people and country of Afghanistan . We have been there ten years and will be there atleast until 2014, you tell me is it still justified?? 14 years come on that is crazy talk, If our military cant solve the problems in ten, I dont think we will solve them by 2014, just my opinion.

In the U.S. Constitution, Article I, Section 8, Congress should have the power "To declare War, grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water." Now the War Powers Resolution of 1973 puts a limit on the ability of the U.S. President to send troops into foreign country and making the President notify Congress within 60 days, however, he can extend it to 90 days. But logically speaking, the president can start a war by sending in troops to a foreign land, like into Vietnam. It's not technically the "Vietnam War" but a Vietnam conflict, which is absurd. Since Congress did not specifically declare war and did authorize complete funding of the war, is it then reasonable to say that the "Iraq  and Afghanistan Wars" are unconstitutional
