Devils Lake (Overview) - Saturday, July 30, 2011
Fished Saturday afternoon using the Round Lake Ramp. It was my son (13) and I in the boat and we pulled bottom bouncers with spinners tipped with leaches. We fished along Old #281 north of Minnewaukan, the old Minnewaukan sewage lagoon area, the West end of the Golden Highway, and Monkeys Ridge.
Caught oodles of 12-14" eyes in 15-20 ft. Everything went back in the lake. All hooked in the lips which was unusual.
Beautiful weather. NW wind that created some decent rollers on the main part of the Flats but nothing hard to manage. Would have liked to stay out later but we had something else to do. The road construction on #19 is worth driving around if you are in DL and want to use this ramp.

Re:Hey Farnorth!
Can you tell me exactly where the Round Lake Ramp is? I know it is on the west end......that's all I know. Glad to hear that you are fishing with your son. Enjoy every minute of it because before you know it, these days will be only a memory! ( I speak from experience) Thanks Workin Fool

Re:PM Sent. Not a secret location. Right by the pumping station on 281. The first time I used the ramp, I did feel a bit stupid when I headed for the main lake and missed the cut in the old road and had to turn around. Luckily nobody was watching. |

Re:I did not know where the cut was the first time, now it is quite obvious with the weeds. It is close to the south shore for anyone going out, there is a pile of debris from where they broke through old 281, it bottoms out at about 6 or 7 feet. There is also another gravel road, I have crossed and my sonar has blanked out it was so shallow, other times I have crossed and had 4ft showing, if you watch the south shoreline you will see it entering the water, I have heard of, but not seen people go full throttle over it, just giving a heads up to you and whoever else heading that way. |
