Maybe you should start making that chamber a C&R tourney while you're making your "changes"

I'm quite sure they won't be changing it to C&R.  The city puts on a community fish fry and corn feed each year and uses these fish for that event.  I've helped at this feed and they serve a lot of people.  Mostly older residents who no longer are able to get out and fish like the rest of us.  I think it's great in that it gives them a chance to enjoy what the rest of us are able to enjoy year around.  So, I'm sure it will remain a Catch and Eat tournament for the foreseeable future.

The entry fee is $250.

We are looking at catch and release for the future.  We couldn't change everything in one year.

I am open to any and all suggestions to make this a great event.  Feel free to email me at johnnie@gondtc.com or call me at 701-371-9431 any time.  I would love to talk about all your ideas.

Thanks and have a great summer.  I hope it includes Devils Lake.  The fishing will be awesome here this summer.

I was actually going to start another thread on this very subject.
For those of us already signed up, what are the chances that the Grahams Island road will be under water this year, and if it is, do you have a back up plan?

Reports are of huge inflows right now and many bridges north are under water already. Some have speculated that you may not be able to get under the bridges in a boat if the water gets that high. I know you will at least have to watch your rods on the way through.

When the lake was at it's highest you could still get out to Grahams without trouble and you could get under all of the bridges.  Now they're talking about being within inches one way or the other of the record high, so not to worry.

I thought they were predicting over 2 feet above the previous record elevation. I know for sure that I read that on one of Tim's posts pulled from a forecasting site. Don't feel like searching through the archives to find it.

Has anyone seen a reputable elevation forecast for DL? I'll start searching now.

I used to fish that tourney - it was a fun one.  Weather seemed to be tough.    Horsager correct me if I am wrong but  thinking about it the road to grahams was closed and they raised the road back in 90's.   If I remember the park was closed like a whole year.   It wasnt till sometime later shelvers closed.  I know we spent alot of time fishing the marina and the campground area - good snagging area.    I think most of the roads that a person uses now have been built higher.

I remember one year when Hi-way 57 asphalt claimed some rangers - busted that high priced fiberglass like a twig.  They float when full of water - no doubt about that .

Remember when:

1. the wonderbread color, clown, ...........
2. the bigger the better
3. Deep long A bombers
4. When nobody heard of salmo - and if they did they would of smiled at the size
5. Husky jerks - how many did i leave of them in the lake
6. Thundersticks - weight em up
7. Planer boards

aahhh how times change when the lake gets older.  She might get a little spark of youth this summer.   good fishing.  See ya when she warms up.

Stay thirsty my friends

for what it is worth, i think the old record was a couple of years ago and was a tad bit over 1449.  we now stand at something like 1448.5 and i think they are predicting at least 1551.  i would be suprised if it doesn't go higher.  i'm relatively young, but we ain't seen this kind of runnoff in at least ten years.

yeah, it will take 1551.  anymore and they will be raising it tho.  in fact, i think that might already be in the works.  i'll see if i can't find a web page with the elevation(s) of the town.  not positive, but if memory serves, almost 2/3 of the town would be under water at that level.  kinda new orleansy when you consider we rely on a dirt wall and some pumps to ensure our town stays dry.

Lake level on April 19 was 1448.41.  One week earlier it was 1447.81.  Record high was 1449.2 on May 9, 2006.  In 2008, the high was basically 1447.

espringers was just about dead on.

Talked to one of the National Guard guys while out sandbagging tonight, and he said Grahams Island road is at 1455 on the top.

There will be a lot of water.  Graham Island should be OK but there will be work to be done out there.  Ramps at 6 mile and East Bay are already being extended so if you come up this spring you might have to look a little harder where to put in.  None of the bridges should be a problem, they were raised last time of accomodate a rise to 1459 to unless you have a flying bridge you should be able to go under for a few years yet.

On the fishing side, with the rising water the fishing should be FANTASTIC.

I've fished the Chamber Tournament for 27 years and I think that this year might be the best ever.  Having Johnnie as Director gives it credibility and direction that has been lacking in recent years.  If you have feedback give it to Johnnie, he is very receptive to constructive suggestions.

Wrong again, that's what I get for not checking out the water levels for a couple weeks.  When I last looked there was only a 50% chance of getting a tenth or two above the old record flood stage from '06.

Shorthairs, I didn't fish DL much until '04 or so, so I missed out on a lot of the road closures etc.  I've caught way more fish in less than 3' than I ever have deeper than 10'.  I've got boards and plenty of deep runners but most of the time they stay hidden (I hate running the boards).  Rapala #5's and #7's get the biggest workout in my boat.
