I am guessing that the game and fish will have to starting poisioning the carp coming from the pembina system again pretty soon with the high water.  Anyone have any updates.

i thought they got the earthen (think its a gravel road) divider between the two basins shored up in the last few years.  could be wrong.  but, i'd love to hear from anyone who knows for sure.

I watched a guy the other night catch 4 or 5 suckers, he continued to swear up and down they were carp.  Guess he couldn't tell they were silver instead of gold.  With folks like this around I'm sure there will be "carp in DL" before ya know it.  I bet a striped bass is caught before a carp will be.

I think they had dikes or roads with electric protection at the culverts or something. I know they had been working on it last summer.

We HAD the electric fence above Jamestown where thousands were swimming 2 weeks ago. Now there is no road.

The Game and Fish have been working with the landowners and the Cavalier Co Water Board to resolve this for at least 4 years.  They are close to a resolution but this year again they will need to maintain a poison drip station there to kill any carp in the area.  With any luck we will have a permanent berm up by this time next year.  Diligence is important there are a number of other areas that have carp in their watershed that potentially threaten to contaminate Devils Lake waters.  Game and Fish watches this quite closely but there are those out there who don't see carp as a problem.  We can't shoot them unfortunately but we can support G&F when they need us.

I saw a guy snag two carp yesterday at Channel A.  Pikewarrior; I know the difference between a carp and a sucker and these were definitely carp.
Just a nice red river cat.

If that's the case, the Game and Fish want to see them.  Get the guy to give you one and call the RAP line on your license.  I've heard many reports of carp from the DL drainage.  Not one has been verified yet.

My dad and I were fishing the 1st bridge north of the brinsmade bridge on 281 and he caught around a 5-6 lb carp. Thought it was kind of neat. Threw it back. Maybe should have taken a picture or killed the fish but the fate of the fish was not for me to decide. Still an exciting part of the day

I have seen one 2 lb sucker caught in devils about 3-4 years ago.  I am guessing there are quite a few of them in the lake but have never caught one in the summer.  Has anyone else caught one other than in the spring?

I've seen them (suckers) south of the casino up in the shallows, didn't catch them though.

I don't know who caught what, but suckers look absolutely nothing like carp and anyone who has caught one of each should know the diff. I'll be honest, I find it highly unlikely that there are NO carp in Devil's Lake. Maybe they haven't taken over yet, but I doubt it is void of them.

My buddy caught a grass carp which is a green shaded type of carp in Devils Lake last winter thru the ice, thought he had a monster walleye on but nope was a carp. Have also caught a few suckers thru the ice out there and they do not look any bit the same!

The G&F hear this a lot lately.  Every time they turn out to be suckers.  I'm sure if someone caught a carp and knew for sure it was one they'd do something about it.  Rumors, rumors, rumors.....

Can they honestly stop the carp invasion.  I mean, with the swelling in water levels can they actually pull it off or are they fighting a winless battle?  My question is, how many other creek systems, pot holes, etc get into the Devils once the water equalizes throughout that country?

SHOOT AND KILL EVERY CARP! WITH YOUR BOW, HANDGUNS, OR HIGHPOWERED RIFLES! but i guess they are fun to catch. in the Bismarck area, i am pretty sure that the Zoo takes dead carp and feeds them to the bears. so if you want to do that you would be helping out the zoo. and the bears.

The road ditches north of Lincoln are packed full of BIG carp the last few days.  i think I'll take my bow down there and road hunt for some raccoon and skunk bait!   Even a pitchfork would do in that shallow water.  Out of curiosity are pitchforks legal?

Technically the bowfishing season does not start till May 1, but I personally will not be upset if you want to thin the herd out early.  ;-)
