Devils Lake Access & Trails

Currently the Lake access committee has decided not to plow the trail system usually seen on Devils Lake.  They will be  plowing access area's only at East Bay Ramp, Lakewood Ramp, Six Mile Bay Ramp and The North END of six mile.  This decision was made after a long discussion about funding.  The usual winter trail system costs approx. $14,000/year to maintain and the lake access does not have enough funds to maintain the trails, we will be doing access points only until our limited funds run out and then we will not be able to continue that effort either.  Woodland Resort and Spirit Lake Marina continue to establish trails on the lake with access through their respectful properties.  A huge thank you goes out to those entities for their efforts as I  know the cost of maintaining the trails is a huge amount.  I know that several people have questioned the efforts so far this year so I thought I would explain the situation and let the people have the same info that I have as of this morning.

Thank you,

Allan Freidig

that means if you need Gas, food, bait or anything you can buy buy it from those two places. I have been able to drive on most of the lake with no problems,,,,,,,,,,,,,,with my feet wheeler, old fashioned but it works!

I often wondered where the funds came from for the trail system. I fished Lake of the Woods for years and if you are driving a vehicle you pay for access to their roads. I remember red lake in the crappie hay day and hundreds of cars at 5 bucks each. Maybe Devils Lake needs some volunteer cash pails by the access points. I would think some people using the roads would donate to keep the roads open.

They tried the volunteer system before and it barely raised any funds at all.

Has the Chamber of Commerce thought of having a winter derby with half of the proceeds go to access upkeep and half to the purse for the derby. I know the fire department's derby is big, but I would think the Chamber would be really interested in keeping good access for tourism. Maybe LRAA or even FBO members in the eastern half of the state. If you have access-they will come. Just my 2 cents.

Went to Ackerman acres and spoke with Neil on Tuesday. They will be plowing out there once there is a little more ice. Right now you can still get a lot of places out there with a vehicle if you dodge snow drifts.
