Devils Lake (Overview) - Tuesday, June 14, 2011
Thinking about heading to Devils around the 4th is the shore fishing still going to be decent? Thanks in advance.

If Game and Fish are managing the lake for pike, they are doing a bang-up job. I fished the Casino tourney last weekend and tough pre-fishing. I found a few spots where I was site fishing good walleyes the weekend before, but ended up sight fishing pike. Walleye are starting to go to trees. Pitching windblown shorelines is still the way to go. You have to weed through a lot of pike to get your walleye though.

Devils Lake (Overview) - Saturday, June 11, 2011
A beautiful day on the lake, fishing was slow, but managed our limit of 16-18" walleyes. We went out from Graham's and tied up to the trees in a few different places. Lindy rigs and jigs tipped with leeches; crawlers caught one fish. Going back for the weekend on Friday.

Devils Lake (Overview) - Sunday, June 12, 2011
Just fished Devil's for 3 days. Walleye bite was tough- northerns were active. Access to the lake is slow going with lots of road delays and rough. We used 6 mile, temp ramp on Pelican and Grahams. The new access south of Minnewaukon looks good but is steep.
Lots of logs floating in Pelican so be alert. The old 281 is under but is shallow enough to ruin your day. The bridges north on 281 have the guard rails showing about 6 inches. We used our old chip to keep us tuned in to some of the hazards. We could see walleyes in about 4 to 6 feet by cattails, but they weren't interested in what we offered. Several follows on cranks- floated slip bobbers into the tails with minnows and leeches. No takers. We did hook a few in 10 feet on leeches but no pattern for success. Pike were most active in 7-8 ft and provided some action and a couple of evening meals. Perhaps better fishing is coming and the bait shops and guides may have time to update info on Devils. Didn't seem they were over worked this weekend. |

Fished Devils over the weekend, water is crazy. My old places are long gone, but just remember the depths, water temps, ect. from years past and find the new areas that match these and you should do OK. Slip bobbering the weed lines with a leech seemed the best, patience is the key. Seemed like they would turn on at certain times and hit, then they would shut off. Patience and move around! Lake was easier to fish last year and prior years, lots of new flooding/cover. LOTS OF DEBRIS ON THE LAKE! Good luck!

Hey guys,
Any fishing reports on White Bass this year? As far as spots? More flooding??? I'm coming from Wisconsin this Thurs and want to get some reports to see how it is before I come. Greatly appreciated, thanks! |

East Bay - Sunday, June 5, 2011
Launched from East Bay campground about 3 yesterday. Started throwing crankbaits in 3-6 fow along wind blown shorelines eventually hooking 2 nice walleye and a few bass but the bite was slow for the amount of water covered. Cruised to the woods rutten road rocks and pitched cranks with no sucess...5 different shorelines and 2 bays later we found our 3 limits in 26-28fow unbelievably, using jigs and leeches/crawlers. Everyone else we talked to that did good was fishing less then 10fow, dont hesitate to watch your graph and fish what you mark even if its uncommon for the time of year!

Minnewaukan Flats - Tuesday, May 31, 2011
Fished the west side of the lake, man what a bad experience. The construction on 19 held us up an hour all my normal spots where I could launch my boat were gone. Ended up launching behind the minnewauken bait shop. Not one fish, all my normal spots are gone due to the extra water. It gets pretty frusfrating when you have to find new spots to fish every year, but thats how the lake has been the last couple of years. Good thing I live close, thats all I can say, or I'm not sure I'd waste my time with it. anyway we were completely skunked but at least we got the boat out, think I'll try that new launch at Pelican and scout some spots when it warms up a bit. Be careful of all the debri!

East Devils lake - Sunday, May 29, 2011
Went out Saturday the 29th on East Devils lake. Brought my 5yr old son for his first big water adventure in a boat.
Ended up catching 40+ white bass, a dozen or so northerns, 17 eyes(15-22") After we had our limit of eyes in the well, we had a blast with the bass. Even busted out the fly rod and got a few on that. My son managed a devils lake trio. (bass, pike, eye). He hasn't stopped talking about our day on the water. We caught fish slippin, pitching jigs and cranks. All fish came out of 3-6ft of water. Hot cranks were chart/white SSR5 and hot steel SSR5. Pink jigs with white gulp worked well also. All in all a fun day on the big lake. |

Devils Lake (Overview) - Monday, May 30, 2011
Saturday the 28th, I fished at Devil’s Lake for, what has become our annual trip with guide Mark Bry. We started our day off at about 9:00 AM and instantly we were catching White Bass. I don’t know if we went more than two or three casts without having a decent-sized Bass at the end. We moved to another spot, got on to some small Northern and found ourselves a nice, healthy 20+ inch Walleye. We fished that area for a bit with great success. We moved to another area before the first batch of rain hit us and, almost instantly, Mark hooked into a 27½ inch chunky Walleye. After releasing him, the Walleye bite was on. It seemed like we were catching a Walleye every couple minutes. All of them were healthy and fat. With our limit in the live well, the rain dumped on us so we went to find cover. After the rain let up, we went back out and continued to slam the fish until about 4:00 PM. When all was said and done, we had caught between 75 and 100 fish: 25ish being walleye (keeping our 10, all 16-20 inchers), about a dozen of Northern and a bunch of White Bass (with the biggest pushing 4 pounds). I fished with Mark Bry last year and didn’t think I could ever have a better day fishing. Now, I’m thinking that about this year’s fishing. All fish were caught with jigs and cranks. If anyone is looking to have an amazing day of fishing and learn from one of the best with great success, contact Mark Bry at http://www.brysguideservice.com. Not only is Mark a very knowledgeable, great fisherman, he’s a great teacher, offers tons of information, is very personable, and makes you feel as if you’re fishing on your own boat. Make sure to follow Mark’s posts on FishingBuddies; I guarantee the information he’s offering is truthful and may help you catch some fish. On Sunday, my partner and I headed out on my own boat to test what we learned from Mark Bry in finding fish and how to catch them. Instantly, we were in the fish again. In the end, we took home another 6 Walleye, caught a ton of Bass, some Northern, and released a few other Walleye. Without the help of Mark Bry, we probably wouldn’t have been able to find fish because we’re a couple of rookies that seemed damn good for those two days. Thanks Mark! I can’t wait to hit the ice with you and next year’s Memorial weekend trip. |

Fun times fishing on Devils Lake!! Lots of new water and spots to discover! Is there anything better than pitching jigs and plastics or cranks into the shallows and not knowing what your going to catch…Could be the thump of a walleye…the smack of a white bass…or the pull of a northern pike. The key is shallow, warm, and any kind of a drop-off. Seems like fish are hanging near flooded timber, cattails, or drop-offs most days. The walleyes are all healthy and big! The norm is 18-20 inches with several over 20 inches. The bass are spawning right now and once you find them, you know the story…We are also seeing a lot of small pike with some nicer pike mixed in. We had a great pike hatch a few years ago and they seem to be everywhere. Devils Lake looks a bit different this year, but the fish don’t seem to mind. The bite seems to be the best from about 10am on. The water warms just a bit and they turn on. Water temps will continue to rise and fishing should only get better!! Remember catch and release on those nicer fish!
Good luck to all!

May 20, 2011:
FOR IMMEDIATE PRESS RELEASE Boat Ramps Open on Devils Lake
As of Friday, May 20, 2011, access onto Devils Lake became a little easier. Three public boat landings are open for use on Devils Lake. Lakewood Boat Landing, located on Creel Bay, is open with the docks placed. The original ramp is not usable at this time, and a new ramp was placed to the north of the old one in Lakewood Park. The fish cleaning station should be operational by this weekend.
The Six Mile Bay Boat Landing is up and running with one lane, and docks placed. Crews are currently working on the second lane. The fish cleaning station is temporarily down at this location until a sewer line can be fixed.
A new landing has been placed on Pelican Lake, north of Highway 19. This is the first time a boat ramp has been placed in this area of the lake and will make it easier for anglers to fish in this location. Currently it is a temporary landing. Crews will start on the permanent ramp and should be complete this fall. According to Suzie Baisch, the tourism director for Devils Lake, “Bridges have been a struggle this year, and due to the rising waters, may be an issue for the next couple of years. We are hoping that by placing new ramps in different locations around the lake, you can still fish your favorite fishing hole, or find a new one, on any section of Devils Lake you want. You may not be able to go from one end of the lake to another by boat on a windy day, but even in fishing the main bay, you still have over 100,000 acres to fish.”
Eastbay Boat Landing, located off Highway 20 should be open by the middle of June.
Also available for access onto Devils Lake is Graham’s Island State Park, located off of Highway 19. The day pass for the state park is $5, or you can purchase a yearly pass for $25. Graham’s Island is open on a day-by-day basis this year due to high water conditions. Construction on the road into the park should begin sometime in August.
Spirit Lake Casino, Woodland Resort and Eastbay Campground all have boat ramps available for day use. They are either available for free or for a minimal fee.
Coming soon will be a boat landing in Black Tiger Bay, located in the south-east corner of the lake.
“Our lake is one of our region’s largest contributions to our economy,” Baisch said. “Lake access is vital to our economy and bringing visitors to our area. I am happy to report our boat landings are opening up, and fishermen can now have access to the lake. The rising waters of the lake have been a struggle for all of us. We have had to change our perspective, and the way we do things, but we are open for business, and the fishing is phenomenal.”
