What is the best/safest hay to feed deer?

If it is going to be a hard winter I may haul some up to the Angle.

Thanks for any info.

This will just be done onlt if there gets to be alot of snow.   There are no crop land or fields at the NW Angle.  Just want to get my ducks in a row ahead of the game.

Thanks

Alfalfa or a alfalfa grass mix is what we feed with some corn sprinkled on top. Never seems to be any left when come back a week later. Seems anything when the fields are buried gets ate.

How would it effect the spread of disease if you are baiting or if your feeding the deer? they both cause the deer to bunch up which they often times do around farmyards in the winter anyways

Second cutting alfalfa. When they are really hungry they will eat almost anything, but second or third cutting alfalfa is superior to any other hay crop. They still need some grain though. Im from NW nodak aswell and know that the farmers got about 30% of their normal crops planted this year. Most years the deer at least have something to dig for. But not this year, the more you can help them out over this winter will certainly benefit you next hunting season. Good luck.
