I was wondering if anyone has an idea on where i could get a deer activity index calender on the web, magazines, or someplace else. I heard about them and read about them in magazines and was going to see how they work and give it a try.

Look in the sky and if you see the moon it is the active part of the day, another is if the cattle are grazing the deer are moving too.

A quick search on google for Deer Activity Index and Deer Activity Index Calendar didn't yield many usable results for free stuff. There are several hits for calendars that you can purchase with this information in it. I don't know about local/area sources for them.

Hawgeye, you need to rethink your comment, because it seems to me it is based more on personal ideas, then actual scientific fact....

I've patterned deer for many years, and one thing is for sure....they will move during any kind of weather, the speed and distance they travel can vary, but i've seen them feeding in blinding snow storms, and traveling well tree'd funnels during 80+ degress.....

But moon phases do play an important role, as do the lengthening and shortening of days........weather alone doesn't determine movement, it is a mere piece of a very inticate puzzle.....we like to think we have put all the pieces together, but in reality we are more lucky than knowledgeable........

Iminrut, i re-thought my previous comment, and after looking back over the 32 yrs. that i have bowhunted on almost a daily basis thoughout each season, i have come to the conclusion that weather conditions has the most effect on deer movement as they go through their yearly cycles. Need i to let you know why they are feeding out in a snow storm or why they are traveling through a treed corridor when it's 80 degrees, it's a little game the deer play thats called survival and since they live out in the elements, weather conditions dictate how and when to successfully play their game of surviving, Spend more time in the woods and not as much time reading someone else's opinion's. This is just my OPINION.

Sorry hawgeye but it is the pull of the moons gravity that effects the animals, birds and fish more than weather, although pressure systems do trigger short term responses. Scientific fact, unexplained but yet scientific. I was just born yesterday and read this somewhere.

Hawgeye, your responses speak for themselves. I spend plenty time in the woods, apparently not as much as you, but more than most.

One thing I've surely noticed and you've eluded to, is that deer move in almost any outsite condition. How is it then that the weather dictates their movement.....wouldn't conserving energy be more efficient than purging it during inclement weather ??

So then is it safe to say, survival is more what drives their movement than the actual weather ?? See what I am saying........everything plays in intrigal part in the game, many only see a tiny bit of the picture.......moon phase, shortening of days, increase or decrease in testosterone, weather....survival....rut.....etc.....

And while I "try" to understand the entire thing, I already know I never will....but I will continually strive to do so......
