Has anyone ever hooked up a cuddeback camera up to a car battery with any luck? When the weather gets cold like this my batteries barely last 4 days.

I have been getting about 2.5 weeks out of my batteries.

What kind of batteries are you using?

Cuddeback recommends Duracell or Rayovac.

Do you need a car battery or would a six volt or Vexilar battery work?

I have 3 cuddebacks and they all are the same. Cuddeback recommends Duracell or Enegizer, and I've used both with the same result. I have a moultrie and that has been going for two weeks with 80% left still. Each camera is taking about 150 pics a night. I'm thinking about switching to moultrie but I like the pictures better from the cuddebacks.

I think the cameras are 12 volt, aren't they?

On another note, I have a stealth cam that has been running on the same set of batteries for a month and a half.

The pictures are not as nice as the Cuddeback and the trigger speed is much slower, but the battery life is over twice as good as a Cuddeback.

How many pictures are you getting with your leaf rivers?

I get about 600 per week on my cudde's as well and only get about 2 to 3 weeks on the batteries (4 D's). As far as the people saying they do so well with moultrie, what model number? I only get one week with my moultries, sometimes less with the pile of junks. (12 volt).

Shannon,

I have the moultrie game spy 4.0, and the (2) cuddeback exites and a no-flash. There all within a 1/2 mile and average 125 - 150 pics a night. I've all the cudde's batteries twice and the moultrie was still at 80%.

I've heard good things about leaf river, but have never tried them. Maybe thats the next step if I can't rig a battery up with a solar panel.

Headhunter, get rid of that camera-send it back and get one of there new ones that take the d cell batteries. I got the same results out of the lantern battery model. The new ones that take the d cell batteries (moultrie) are much better-it says up to 45 days on the box. My old cuddebacks get about 2000-3000 pictures from the 4 batteries.

Yes, I used a deep cycle battery and wired it up to my camera. Let's me put it in after hunting and leave it until summer. Less human scent and ability to find what the animals patterns are without too much human interference. Capture the babies being born and playing at early stages....see my videos on Cuddeback's site.

Not that it matters but the DLC Covert II cameras have been great for me. They are extremely compact and I'm on my second year with the same batteries. They typically average 600-1000 pictures a week from June - January. I checked them two weeks ago and they still had 20% battery life from the batteries that were installed in June 2010.

I need to get a camera that takes AAs and use lithium batteries. Energiser lithium are rated to -40. Regular AAs are like rated to -4. I haven't seen any lithium Cs or Ds, but supposedly some company makes them.

If possible, use lithium as they last longer.  But maybe they don't make them in your size (D's was it)?  I have no idea.  My Bushnell trophy takes 8 AA and with lithium I can get an entire hunting season out of them taking a couple hundred pics a week.  More expensive, but worth it in the long run.

Anyone have the newer cuddebacks the attacks? Just wondering about the battery life on them during the winter months?

Bushnell Trophy Cam with 8 AA ultimate lithium.  I loaned one to my buddy last fall and he just replaced the batteries the other day.  Good trigger speed, can go to 8mp, but not needed.  Easy access to the card as well.  Overall I think it is a pretty solid camera considering the elements we have put them through.

I'm sure others are similar and just as good or better, but this is what I have had success with after using Moultrie IR's and flash cameras.  My buddy has tried several different ones including Moultrie, Cudde Back, and several others, but he is sold on this bushnell.  I would say that any camera that you can put these AA lithium batteries in will probably do pretty good, as those little batteries are incredible.
Life is tough; its tougher if you're stupid!!!!
