USDA FSA is holding nine meetings around the country to get input from citizens on the future of the CRP program. One of those meetings will be held Sept. 21 at the AmmericInn Lodge and Suites in Moorehead, MN, time 5-7PM. Folks can also email comments to:

CRPcomments@tecinc.com

Minnesota is slated to lose up to 680,000 acres in the next 5 years and ND could lose even more. There is an industry push to diminish CRP acres so interested parties need need to make their case at this time.

Dick,

I purchased some land with CRP on it. It was put in CRP in 1998. At that time USDA didn't want any legumes planted, mostly native grasses such as wheatgrass and needle grasses. From -98 to -02 the CRP had some volunteer legumes and thistle. It was full of pheasants. After five years though these died out and the grasses took over and became thicker than hair on a dogs back. No more pheasants. No nothing. The dead sea. So I'm plowing it all up. Started this spring. It produced about half as much grain as my stubble ground. Going to take a while to make it produce again.

Would I ever go into the CRP program again? NO!!! And then there is the issue of your federal buddies at the National Wildlife Federation always going to court over mismanagement of CRP. Making no friends here.

Dick, What do you mean there is an industry push to diminish CRP? Name them. So are you suggesting sportsmen go to these meetings and push back? Before the government can give money to farmers to idle acres for CRP they first have to take those tax dollars from somebody else. Don't you think there is already enough of that crap going on in this country?

Dick, Why not just cut to the chase.

Now that is scarey stuff!! I like what they have to say about your beloved North American model of wildlife conservation on page 603 Quote: When it comes to wildlife, however, let us continue to champion the the North American model of wildlife conservation, "socialist" aspects and all. unquote. I love that part.

Dick, Do you have access to ALL wildlife society bulletins? Do you read them? Do you believe? Just wondering. I don't think these pushing industries you speak of are on the same page as you.
