Crows, Magpies and Pheasants

For the  last 3 years Crows and Magpies seem to show up on my property about the same time as I see the first hatch of pheasants. They seem to stay about 2 weeks and I don't see them again until the same time next year. Do you think they could be eating the newly hatched pheasants chicks or am I being paranoid?

Anyone got any info or noticed anything?

Might be a coincidence, but I know crows will eat anything they can get. I have seen crows catch snakes, small gophers, and all kinds of stuff.

garbage and roadkill seem to keep em fed pretty well.  crows are pretty opportunistic and will eat whatever is easier to get.  however, they won't turn their nose up to a pheasant chick, and neither will snakes, badgers, weasels, skunks, fox, eagles, coyotes, hawks, kestrels, falcons, owls, mink, ticks, mosquitos, manbearpigs and chupacabras.

On the list of things a baby pheasant has to watch out for, I think crows & magpies are at the bottom.

The Magpie will eat any animal food. These foods include young birds and eggs, insects, scraps and carrion. The bird will also eat acorns, grain and other vegetable substances. Your deduction is spot on!
