How does everybody feel about this? I feel like people will be screaming racism before this gets off the ground, and/or the tribes will arrange another mass protest.
North Dakota legislators have introduced a proposal that would change the state constitution to allow for up to six state-owned casinos.
House Concurrent Resolution No. 3033 would allow exceptions to the prohibition on games of chance and authorize up to six state-owned casinos “which are to be established as destination-oriented attractions.”
The resolution is sponsored by House Majority Leader Al Carlson, Rep. Todd Porter and Rep. Roscoe Streyle. Sen. Lonnie Laffen is the Senate sponsor.
The matter would go before voters at the 2018 primary election.
Casinos authorized under the bill must be established as destination-oriented attractions and “selected for the scenic, historic, recreational and tourism advantages of the site and the site’s potential to contribute to the rural economic development of the state.”
