We were finally able to draw muley tags in Colorado unit 61. Does anyone have any experience in that unit?? Thanks.
I have hunted Colo a few times. Where is that Unit?
Monster Elk ,but tons of VERY private land .Gunnison Plateau area is real pretty and has fair[for the mts]. access,I assume you'll have horses or mules. There are places with better public access. You're getting close to the Texan part of Colorado and they guard thier property jealously. The Almont triangle area is nearby there and it's good.Get your lungs and legs in shape or you'll be shaking when you're shooting. I lived there [Colo. Mountains] for 40 years and have covered ten's of thousands of miles in the mountains. You'll do real good and have a swell time.I'm a little jealous. Most of our Elk came from Unit back deck in your slippers. I have a friend who got his last year from the hot tub and his wife got hers in the backyard in her PJ's ,then she hopped in the Bobcat and loaded it in the bucket and had it hanging before he could get back home from work,of course she was raaised in the Dakotas.Good Hunting.
Unit 61 is a limited draw unit west of Montrose CO. You can access the eastern border of the unit off the uncompagre plateau. The unit is known for large elk. I am not very familiar with the unit's mule deer capabilities, however we have seen some nice bucks in the unit. I had several preferance points for the area before I left CO. but never drew. We used to hunt unit 62 which is an over the counter tag and right accross the road hoping to run into a big bull looking for love and not knowing the dave wood road was a unit border. There actually is alot of public land in the unit and easily accessed. Great camping spots as well. I believe I even have some forest service maps you could borrow if you would like. Just pm me if I can help.
Thanks for th info guys, will be sending pm. Any info is appreciated.
