So with many people saying the population of deer is at an all time low.  Would it make sense for the Game and Fish to close deer season for a year to let the population stabilize and grow back to healthy numbers?  My opinion is close the season if it will help out population of deer grow.  I know a lot of people will say eff that and no eff way, but just curious on this topic.

Reduce doe tags in all units and maybe even cut them all together in some.

It seems to be working in mule deer country in ND so maybe it'd work in the rest of the state.

It would be entertaining to see them not have a regular drawing next season but still issue gratis tags to landowners.   lol,  stir it stir it

I wouldn't complain if it were closed for 2014.

Here's my plan:    Shut down the season for five years so bucks have a chance to reach maturity,   open up the season,   WALLHANGERS FOR EVERYONE.

It's ND man,    the health of the deer population is directly dependent on mild/moderate winters.   I remember shed hunting in the spring of '04.   Never seen so many winter killed deer.    Shut down the season if you want.   They'll be wiped out again the next time a bad winter rolls in.

I don't think its necessary.... I saw probably 40-50 deer on opening weekend. While those numbers are probably lower than our usual it doesn't seem like closing the season is necessary in the unit I hunt. That may not be what is going on in every unit but I was pleasantly surprised with the numbers we saw, especially with all the standing corn and flowers still out there. I also saw 2 nice sized herds of antelope over the weekend so maybe things are starting to look up on that front as well.

My thoughts would take longer to establish a better quality deer population, but it is proven to work; bring back CRP and tree rows/shelter belts...

Yeah somebody needs to talk to all the careless farmers tearing out shelterbelts...  Somebody worked really hard to plant all those in such nice straight lines and what not.  What a bunch of acreage hungry jerks.

12, But don't forget you have to have 24  acres of food plots planted in order to qualify.  Or, You can leave 24 acres of corn/beans on the ground.

What you just posted is not how I feel, sorry you feel that way... you really shouldn't, as farmers are just doing what they need for their families... The problem is much deeper but some how I think you know that and I do my best not bad mouth neighbors or to talk economy, social issues or politics online.
