Was just wondering if anybody has made it to cattail bay and how the ice conditions are.  I was also thinking about getting a garmin with the oahe chip for it and was just wondering if it would be a good idea with the flood this spring and if it changed the contour, any thoughts.

I was down at cattail on wednesday and I would recommend going somewhere else... the wind has really wreaked havoc on the ice down there.  We got down there at about 1 and walked out toward the island.  There was quite a bit of water on top of the ice and there are quite a few ridges one must cross and open water in places.  We were the only ones down there and when we left at sundown the ice had deteriorated even more and there was even more water on top of the ice.  There was one ridge we had to cross with about 8-10 inches of water on top of the ice on each side.  Ice varied from 2-10 inches.  With high wind expected saturday I wouldn't be surprised to see the river really open up down there....  If you decide to go down there you better be really careful but I don't think it's worth it.  When we drove by beaver bay there were quite a few groups fishing, even quite a few out at the mouth by the main channel.
