Just a qestion to the the group, been reading the mule deer post, and alot of people out there seem to think the decline in muley numbers, are due to the increase in cat numbers, My qestion is this, how many people out there have seen cats in there travels and how far east,  I live around forty miles west of the MN/ND border have seen lots of tracks but never a positive sighting, but the deer numbers in my area are way down also, and many many stories of animals, disapearing right out of farm steads without a trace,

Every year there seems to be some sightings around my area. Enderlin over to Fort Ransom. Was a couple sightings about a month ago. But I myself have never seen one in the wild. Only in Chahinkapa…

Personally have only seen 1, and that was about a 5 second glance in the Beulah mine hills, a few days before that a few horses north of hazen had got ripped up pretty bad. Probably was about 2003 or 2004? I believe the same cat was seen a day or two later south/SW of hazen a few miles. Never heard of what happened to it or if it moved out of the area.

Two for me.   One on I94 just west of the Glen Ullin rest area and another 4 days later NW of Sand Springs, MT.  That was 4-5yrs ago.   Can't remember the exact year.

Last summer my sister heard one while riding horse on my parents farm between Des Lacs and Ryder. I heard a neighbor saw one a few weeks ago but they are closer to Plaza/Berthold...

my girlfriend saw one on the north side of 2 just west of the railroad bridge just west of berthold about 2 months ago.  i saw one last year where 2 runs thru the white earth valley.  also i've got an aunt and uncle that live about 6 miles southeast of surrey ND.  my aunt was out workin with her horses one day and said a mt.lion came walking thru the trees around their little pasture by the house and sat there and watched her for a bit.  she went to get her gun but by the time she got back outside the cat was gone.

Had a neighbor miss one on my family's land south of Turtle Lake last deer season. Don't know how they missed, caught it out in the open with no cover.... probably pissed themselves when they saw it!

Also had another neighbor see three last summer while discing his field... that one is not confirmed though.

Had three cross highway 22 right in front of me just north of the lost bridge in the summer of 2005. It was raining and they ran right up the clay buttes like it was no problem.

I didn't personally see it, but the guy  who lives 1-1/2 miles south of where I hunt had one in his yard this year.  (Unit 2F1, Carrington area)
Get up at 5 in the morning, walk through miles of cattails, sit in a stand all day in the cold, come back home in the dark, get up the next day and do it all over again. I'd do that for a buck!

I've only saw 1 and that was in MT hunting in 2010 for deer.

"When we step into the outdoors, we have the privilege of standing in the presence of God through the power and majesty of His creation. That makes hunting more than a sport or a hobby. It's a calling to something greater. And that transforms the places that we stand into something more than a cropfield or a pasture or a mountain. It makes that place Hallowed Ground."

All kinds of cougars over here.

I bet I see a dozen or more every weekend in downtown Fargo.

I think they're harder on little boys than deer though.

I've seen 2 in the Dickinson area. One while driving to high school several years ago. The second one was while I was bowhunting  a corn field with standing corn 2 years ago. I was standing in the middle of a huge field on top of a hill looking down into more corn and I could see the cat sneaking up on something. Then I couldn't see it anymore and I had to walk through corn that was over my head for at least a few hundred yards in every direction. That was the first time I have ever been scared while I was hunting. I now carry a pistol when I bowhunt.

Zero for me in ND. I spend a lot of time in cat country but no sightings. Tracks numerous times but never actually laid my eyes on 1 out there.

Bumped one out of a draw while stalking a muley on opening weekend 2010 between the North and South unit. Definitely exciting. Less then a half mile from the tent tho. That was a little nerve wrecking the next night, ha. Also, in the same area this season, the rancher told us he saw 2 in the same location this past summer. Must be a den in the area. When I bumped the one, you should have seen the deer that came busting out of the wood work in a panic and running all over hell. But I am sure they never get chased so I dont know why they were freaking out ....also, this season, a buddy arrowed a nice buck, 24 hours later we hiked past the deboned carcass and it had been buried...only a few animals do that...not saying it was a mtn lion for sure, but there def wasn't any grizzlies around.

Found tracks this fall right after deer season just west of Thompson.

A friends wife was leaving for work and was positive she had seen a mountain lion run in front of the car. So we went out looking for tracks, no snow of course, however we found the tracks on the other side of the section in the soft dirt on the side of the road. No question about it that they were cat tracks.

This same family had also seen one about three years prior to this instance as well.

We also found big cat tracks NW of Thompson as well. I believe it was 2007.

They're out there!
