went out in a boat yesterday and had a number of bites but got a perch and a 14 inch large mouth, went out on the dock and got a dozen perch, a blue gill, and another LM on nightcrawler on a floating jig head on the bottom.

Went out a couple different times last week just getting my gear ready for the season and just messing around. Caught one bass the first time out about 2lbs. Then next time i went out caught about 1.5lb bass and a very small bass. Also caught a very small perch as well. Only bites i had were the ones i caught. Not very active yet.

Went out to Casselton to see if fish existed. Turns out the fish exist, they are just hard to find and don't bite much. Might have been yesterday's front that shut the fish down but they didnt bite for anything. Had one bite on a live minnow with a small jig but 30+ holes and various spots later, no fish to show for it. Used minnow heads and tried live minnows and last tried hooking bugs I pulled out of the water, no fish.

Interesting thing I've never seen: after drilling one of my holes over a mud bottom I probably pulled up 20 bugs with the water, looked like small water beetles and whenever I picked one up it tried to "dart" away. Also the weeds are dark green still so must be plenty of O2 still. Bugs hatching and green weeds, hopefully the late ice bite picks up soon on other lakes!

this is actualy 3 reports in 1, went out 3 sundays ago in a boat with my dad, I got one realy nice fish on a 6 inch rebel, but it got off. 2 minates later, I got a 30 inch northern on the same thing, kept it. we stoped by the ridge in the middle of the lake and had a exalent time cating bluegill and perch on size 10 hooks and half a angle worm, I had to keep a 6 inch perch because when I was bringing it in, a northern grabbed it and shredded it. the next sunday we were in the back part of the lake and caught a few bluegill, one on a daredevil half its size, then I was dumped on shore and found a guy who thought there were catfish in there and I told him there were none, but I sure as heck wish there were, and he was keeping 6 inch perch. I then ran to the mid part of the south shore where the ridge is and I started casting a size 10 hook with half a angle worm and a split shot, with a 34 year old zebco omega 113, very high quality, no stick, and on the second cast, I hooked something, something big. it was a 7 pound northern, that is the definition of unexpected, I let it go. the third sunday, just a few perch bluegill and crappie, they are very picky.
