I have 2 dogs, one is a female corgie/border collie who is 3 and the other is a 1.5 year old small munsterlander, both dogs are good with other dogs and non people aggresive but cant seem to establish a higherarchy in the house. They have gotten in to a few fights that were fairly minor because my wife or myself were able to break it up, they got in to one outside and we were un able to break up and they stopped on there own but tore eachother up. The corgie had 4 puncture wounds and the small munsterlander got bit in the ears and bLed all over the place. They were good for a while but tonight they got in to it again

My  question is this. Has antbody had this issue? How do inresolve it? I do not want to het rid of one but i can not figgure out how to stop it. PLEASE HELP

Yep both female. I was never warned that 2 females was a bad combo. But since i have been searching apparently the best pairing is female/male then male/male and lastly female/female.

moose - we feel your, and your dogs pain.  we've been through this. The best advice we got and it is the best advice, is to constantly watch both of them and you'll pick up the fear/aggressive cues before they lash and and you'll be able to head it off before it happens.  It does take constant monitoring by you and it does take time but it works and things do get better.

Yes. Both are spayed but both seem to have an alpha personality

We can see it coming usualy but the last time it was when they got excited about company at the house and one nipped at the other

I dont think that matters does it?

might as well hook up the shock collars and set to high and have at it when they rumble --- to bad they are not pups -- that would cure in one shot. If u have kid - he/she can watch em 24-7 and hit it at the start of the rumble

Wow! Thankfully our dogs always had an ordered heirarchy and it really took a lot to make them even argue. This was a male pair.

this is where you come into play,  you need to establish that YOU are the alpha and that they are not.  it takes a lot of work but once you establish that you are the dominant one they will worry about what the boss (you) wants instead of what they want. once they see that you are the alpha then they should quit worrying about each others dominance.  plus once they know your the alpha that will actually help relax them alot.  when there is no definate alpha, dogs tend to be more highstrung and snippy, more likely to bite, fight, etc...  i recommend an obedience class,  my gf took our boxer to an obedience class north of minot, it was 6 weeks every monday, and it was like $90 and weellllllllll worth it.

Never argue with an idiot.... they'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

When we have hounds that want to fight with each other we put bark collars on both of them and in a very short time they quit.  I have kept four feamles in one kennel for several years.  Tritronics makes the best bark collar.  Good luck!

See the above in red! Have dealt with this and only and I mean only after all of the people in the house became dominat over the dogs did the fighting end!

Getting help via a obedience class is great as long as the instructor is teaching the handlers how to act because if not it will be a waste of time!

In my lifetime I have seen fence row to fence row farming and the return of CRP and game to the landscape. Now we face again the prosepect of fence row to fence row again! Sportsman are our own worst enemy in that we fail to look forward and focus to much on the now!

I thought i already wrote this - --- but -- here it goes --- two dogtras set on max  - the handler is your kid you and your wife  (whoever is at home).   Light em up if they even come close to each other.

If we could only use dogtras in domestic disputes

I know the Corgi is older, but which dog did you have first?
I'm interested in the bark collar method. I like the idea of self correction and not having to monitor 24/7 becuase it's just about impossible.
I've always been lucky and never had any major issues with our dogs. I try to stick to male/male pairs with at least one being neutered and usually both. There have been small spats but they have always worked it out amongst themselves with out any real injuries. The nasties fights I have witnessed have involved at least 1 female, and usually she's the agressor. For some reason the are bitchier :)

I have an 8 years old neuterd lab male and a 3 year old not cut they had a few spats but now they have figured out i am in charge and no problems unless the little one sticks his head in the others food dish.  Seems the females are just a little grumpier it must be a genetic thing

When they start or get in a fight, administer stern discipline (both dogs) so that they know that Daddy don't like whats going on. Yelling and talking isn't going to get you anywhere. If you don't like manual persuasion then I recommend the shock treatment for both.

This would be my recommendation as well.

Good old fashioned ass whooping, My Lab and my cousins golden retriever (both males) used to get into it every time they were in close proximity to one another and fight to the death. After the first couple battles we figured that this wasnt going to stop so we stepped in. As soon as they started we were in there, I would grab my dog and he would grab his. I have no problem with giving my lab a kick or a good slam on the ground and either does my cousin. This asserts dominance and lets them know without a doubt that they are not the boss. These two dogs now keep a fair distance between one another and if they do run into each other the only thing that comes of it is a slight lip curl.
