Shot a buck tonight with Muzzy. I went to grab horns for the drag and both busted off the head. Clean to the skull. This seems to be a little soon? Maybe because the herd is already stressed?
Wonderful Reagan quote that says it like it is! "It isn't that Liberals are ignorant. It's just that they know so much that isn't so."

Have heard of it more than once during muzzy/late archery season. Not only in bad winters.

You can't aim a duck to death.

Hope it wasn't a bruiser. If it is you can get brackets form Van Dykes to fix them.

Seen a buck this morning that has dropped a side already.

An older deer?

Yeah a guy has to be careful this time of year to not shoot a huge doe!!  Could be the big buck you were after all year!!

"When we step into the outdoors, we have the privilege of standing in the presence of God through the power and majesty of His creation. That makes hunting more than a sport or a hobby. It's a calling to something greater. And that transforms the places that we stand into something more than a cropfield or a pasture or a mountain. It makes that place Hallowed Ground."

Tags should be down again next year, even if we have a nice winter.

I have had a five pointer come up all fall (115-120).  Four nights ago i was filming as he went through the trees to my stand.  He was with some does and fawns.  One side came off and I would guess because the horn my have hit one of the does.  Was filming another buck so did not see it drop but did film the deer after it dropped and the horn laying on the ground.  First for me in all those years of a deer dropping his horn in front of me.  Camera from last night still has its right side.  I believe by the way it acts and looks it is a young deer that I do have hopes for one day if it keeps coming up to me.  db

I thought this thread was about the Vikings...

On a serious note, I was hunting a deer late last year.  I was fully prepared for horn loss so if I would have gotten lucky enough to kill him I was gonna pack him out even if a drag would have made more sense.

Would be a heart breaker to lose the antlers like that.  Niffty story though.

Drop in level of testosterone  causes antlers to loosen  some loose em in December and some loose em in March.   I would say by End of January alot of bucks have dumped em.

Size of antlers does not matter either,  have seen a 160 class buck hold on to them until 15th of March.   That same buck the next year lost them in Mid January.
