So sombody mentioned this on another thread and I am curious as to why, A bow depreciates like no other, while a gun of pretty much any sort will hold its value???

is it the fact of maintenence on bows, or whats the deal. just wondering

Bows always seem to be going "up" in performance.... speed, quietness, lighter weights.... where as majority of rifles are where they have been for some time, for performance, weight and quietness(lol). I guess thats my take on it! Now get back to work!

Bows are like computers...there's alway "new" technology coming out and better models. The bow companies have sold the "latest and greatest" craze. Rifles, IMO, haven't really changed.

It's because even off the shelf bows are essentially "custom" by the time you have all your crap bolted on and tied in.  Give or take, nobody will be able to pick up your bow, that's sighted in for you, and shoot it as well as you do.  Even your arrows are cut to fit you and how you're gonna hold/shoot your bow.  I also think there's a perception of "wear" on a bow the limbs, string, cables, etc and the perception is that the wear happens faster to a bow than it will to a rifle.

Conversely, hand a guy an off the shelf rifle sighted in for a particular load and it'll pretty much shoot the same for everybody.

"Custom" rifles, hold their value about like archery equipment.  Caveat being if you've had them built by a smith with a following.
