Bowhunting questions

Ok, I've been out of the game for over 6 years and had a couple questions I couldn't find answers for, hoping some people can make me feel stupid (shouldn't be too hard.)

Does a person need to be 440 yards away from an occupied building?

Where I currently have my stand, isn't a really high percentage spot. I've just seen a couple nice brush-poppers within 50-100 yards every other day when I'm coming home from work. It's by a creek, in a stuble field, with sunflowers, beans, and beets within 200 yards. If I lay a mineral block by the stand, should I be able to sleep at night? What I mean is, if I build it, will they come?

Thanks, and again, I'm not looking for Mr. Freak-Nasty, I just want to shoot a deer. (skinhead, buck, it doesn't matter.)
If it comes within 20 yards it's going down. It's been a long time and we need some meat for the freezer!

I got into an argument about the 440 rule last year with some co-workers, so I contacted G&F. Anyways, here's a copy of my question and their answer at the top, hope that helps with one of your questions:

Yes, how you explained your question is exactly how it works, if a person has permission to hunt on land that falls within the 440 yard restriction, the person can still hunt on that land.

Can you please explain the 440 yard rule, indicating that one cannot shoot within 440 yards of an occupied building. Specifically, if a person has permission to hunt adjacent land that is within the 440 yards or if it’s PLOT or other public land that falls within the 440 yards of an occupied building, can a person still hunt that land? Thank you.

I was speaking in terms of bowhunting vs. rifle, but thanks. I want to move my stand anyways. It's pretty close to 400 yards but I don't want to chance it.

The same rule applies, you'll be fine as long as you have permission or it's open to public hunting.

That's what I though. I had a friend who shoots archery alot and he seemed to think the 440 yard rule was only applicable to gun season.
Thanks Nanky-boy

Instead of a block i'd just find someone who has an apple tree that's been dropping apples, get a 5 gallon pail full and dump them on the ground the deer will eat the apples until they're gone, the wafting scent of warm apples is sure to bring some deer around your tree.
The wheel is spinning..but the hamster is dead.

I've been asking around, no luck yet. I have several acorn trees in my yard and was thinking about getting an ice cream pale or 2 of them.

Acorns work well, i would put a little molasses on top of the acorns, just to grab their attention.
