CANNED SHOOT STATEMENT
The Boone and Crockett Club’s Board of Directors and its membership have unanimously adopted and approved a position statement on “Canned Shoots” because of the growing concern among hunters and the increased public interest in the practice of “canned hunts.”

BOONE AND CROCKETT CLUB POSITION STATEMENT
ETHICAL HUNTING VERSUS UNETHICAL SHOOTING AND OTHER PRACTICES

The Boone and Crockett Club has been a highly respected conservation leader and proponent of ethical Fair Chase hunting of North American big game since 1887.

Ethical Fair Chase Hunting
The Boone and Crockett Club, in its Fair Chase statement, advocates any hunting that is “the ethical, sportsmanlike and lawful pursuit and taking of any free-ranging wild game animal in a manner that does not give the hunter an improper or unfair advantage over the game animals.”

Unethical “Canned” Shooting (Improperly referred to as “canned” hunting.)
The Boone and Crockett Club condemns the pursuit and killing of any big game animal kept in or released from captivity to be killed in an artificial or bogus “hunting” situation where the game lacks the equivalent chance to escape afforded free-ranging animals, virtually assuring the shooter a certain or unrealistically favorable chance of a kill.

Genetic Manipulation of Game Animals
The Boone and Crockett Club condemns artificial and unnatural enhancement of a big game species’ genetic characteristics. Unacceptable practices for genetic enhancement include, but are not limited to, artificial insemination, controlled or unnatural breeding programs, cloning, and translocation of breeding stock for canned shooting purposes.

Public Perception
The Boone and Crockett Club is greatly concerned that the non-hunting public may confuse ethical, fair chase hunting with canned shoots, genetic manipulations and other related practices, which the Club condemns.

Dick, I see you left the date off:  Prepared for and Adopted by the Board of Directors - June 4, 2005'

I wonder what they would think of a group accepting money from a PETA member and using HSUS to achieve their agenda.

This is a current article regarding HSUS from the Fair Chase Fall 2010 issue.

www.facebook.com/note.php

They will be having a part two for this article in their winter 2010 issue.

Part Two of this column will appear in the Winter 2010 issue of Fair Chase. It continues to examine in-depth the deceit and hypocrisy of HSUS, PETA and other radical and militant animal rights organizations, and their attacks on hunting and fishing, zoos and circuses, factory farming, medical and biological research, dog breeders, corporate retailers and manufactures, and their insidious youth education programs promoting veganism, animal rights, animal liberation, and a petless, meatless society. The frightening criminal underbelly of the animal rightists eco-terrorism and veganarchism campaigns are moreover explored, as is the legal system’s involvement both in the United States and abroad. The end game and utopian world of animal rightists is a daunting and serious societal threat both to sportsmen and the very way we live and function.

They may condem it, but I don't see an endorsement from them of what the Fair Chase committee is doing.

They may condem it and ask other hunters to condem it by not patronizing a hunt ranch, but I wonder if they endorse taking people's legal businesses away from them without compensation.

Hey Dick, here's something published a little more recently. Came from the Fargo Forum dated October 26, 2010.

‘No’ on Measure 2

Measure 2, the so-called high-fence hunting ban, is not about hunting. Nor is it about property rights. Nor is it an invitation for the anti-hunting crowd to get a foothold in North Dakota. Nor is there evidence it’s a threat to traditional hunting in the state.

Measure 2 has the potential to be a legal nightmare. Despite claims the language is iron-clad, the measure is ambiguous enough to have lawyers salivating over the prospect of going to court should the measure pass. That potential should send proponents of the measure back to the drawing board.

High-fence, or canned, “hunting” is not hunting in the tradition North Dakotans cherish. Shooting animals raised on game farms in fenced enclosures – no matter how large the enclosure – is akin to plinking fish in a shallow stock pond. It’s an insult to North Dakota’s hunting tradition. “Hunters” who brag about a trophy elk or deer bagged inside the fence are worthy of scorn. They are shooters, not hunters.

That being said, Measure 2 is a flawed instrument. If North Dakotans want to control or limit high-fence operations, Measure 2 is not the way to go. Vote “no.”

Hey Dick,
Maybe we should find a crack in your world to vote your hard earned money, gotten by perfectly legal enterprise then flush it into nonexistance!
That is one of  the "Evils" which this measure will create.
Think about what your doing to Good Law Abidding Tax Paying Citizens before you get on your high horse and point fingers.
As for you hunters considering voting yes on this, I ask again. Just how do you think Farmers and Ranchers will respond to being FORCED as how they choose to make a living on their property?
Maybe more and more posted land?
I can safely bet that is one of the results that the M2yes promoters are banking on.
Divide us then defeat us in our own backyards.
All Hunters should support our Farmers and Ranchers without question.
For ALL who read my post Please VOTE NO on M2, its the Right response to a poorly wriiten measure.

I guess i really don't care what  B&C and P&Y have to say, kind of ironic my user name is P&Y, it stands for something else, was a member of both these clubs at one time, waste of money, but that is my opinion and we all know what opinions are like. More concerned with the piece of craps like HSUS and PETA, and more people like you Dickey moving into this state and trying to push your morals and ethical ways on everyone else, there are alot of things i have seen other people do while hunting that haven't been ethical, I don't condemn them for doing it, that is their choice and i also have a choice. Having seen the putrid ad by the HSUS made me want to puke!

You might disagree with Dick Monson on this measure and that is everyones right to do.   But Dick isn't some outsider as you suggest.   He grew up on a farm by Valley City and rasied his own family on that farm.  He is a Marine Corps Vietnam Vet, and has been hunting his whole life.    I met him about 6 years ago while working on some hunting legislation.   Dick isn't like many hunters in ND, he actually gets involved in issues he cares about.    Be has opposed to measure 2 as you want, but personally attacking Dick Monson as some sort of un-North Dakotan makes you a fool....

How Many people are we talking about that want to fence and shoot. I would say way less than 1% of landowners would care to put up a fence to enclose animals so some lazy  jiggy jack can come and gun down a defenseless animal. It can't run or hid, It eventually will get shot! Most fence hunts GUARANTEE a kill or no pay!

Dick Monson stated on the Mike Mcfeely and Joel Hietkamp shows they were not accepting monies from any anti hunting group people.

Who cares if peta wants it stopped. It is not hunting. They will never be able to stop real hunting because all the "real hunters" will speak there mind. The fencies are such a small group they have no chance!

When someone sends you money when you're working on some cause I don't think many people do background checks on the person who sent it.    I donated to some campaigns this year and my check was cashed without question.     I am, however,  plotting the take over the free world,  so that's now on the people that cashed my check.......It wouldn't  matter to you if Dick posted this or anything else, so why should he waste his time?

Ladd,

The other day Dick stated on the radio that the measure is so well written that hunts for disabled/handicapped could still be done at these facilities.

Dick has stated in the past in Dakota Country and on their website that this measure would end internet hunting, the infamous style of game farm shooting, a hunting form that does not exist.

Dick has stated that feral hogs were brought into this state by the canned hunt facilities, even though Phil Mastrangelo, State Director, USDA/APHIS/Wildlife Services, has stated that no agency was able to ever tell the source of the pigs.

Dick has stated that 200,000 of game and fish money was used to subsidize canned hunt facilities, even though he knew that the 200,000 was to oversee all regulation of all alternative livestock.

So what should we believe?
