Looking at new engine in the 115-140hp range for 18ft warrior tiller.  Any of you own a newer model 4 stroke in that range and any advice.  Looking at all makes and hoping to buy local in ND.

Bought a Alumacraft last year and it has a Suzuki 140 four stroke on it.  Never had a four stroke before and was a little hesitant on buying one.....but I'm glad I did.  SO much quieter than a two stroke and the gas mileage was considerably better.

I'd go for a Verado!  The Zuki would be my second choice.

Yamaha four stroke......IMO, most bulletproof motor out there.  We tortured one for 8 years before we finally sank the entire boat, and the yamaha never gave up.....

Curious as to how your boat sank? That would majorly suck.

Best outboard I have owned or been around is the Yamaha 4stroke. Quiet, smooth power and super reliable.  Will not consider anything else in the future.

I run a 150 4 stroke yamaha on an 18 ft pro-v ifs. I get about 47 mph out of it. I love getting in turning the key and going, no choking on smoke, fast idling, buying oil ect... One oil change and done for the summer.

I would love to try a verado and certainly wouldnt hesitate to look at suzuki. If I were to buy a new boat I would have no reason not to buy another yamaha.

Any of the fuel injected 4-strokes are good.  I don't think it matters what name is on the side so long as it's fuel injected.  Honda, Yammie, Suzi, Merc, I'd by any of that bunch right now, no questions asked.

Go with the 140 Zuki.  Why?  Because I want to see how you like it so when I get a new boat I know if I should go with that motor .

Major problem is, if Warrior doesn't come back then I guess it is a no brainer.  A 90 horse Yamaha because no other dang 18 foot tiller boat is rated for anything higher than Warrior.  Sucks.

First of all, any of the 4 strokes are going to be pretty comparable in performance and operation. If I was buying a four stroke I would be looking at who's going to give me the best price and service if I need it down the road. You'll likely need to balance these considerations. The suzuki has been know to be a great engine but don't expect it to run like a 140HP, they are also known to be a bit weak for the HP rating.

I personally would also consider either of the Direct Injected Two stroke engines. Both the Optimax and Etech are very good performers. You'll get all the four stroke advantages except noise level, the DI 2-strokes will be louder, however they have reduced the noise level substatially over the old 2-strokes.

Personally, I'd probably buy a 135 Opti wich runs very close the it's big borther the 150. It'll perfrom considerably better out of the hole, will likely have the best top end, will likely be the lightest and will net the best fuel economy. Really, the ONLY downside is they are not the most quiet however many that own them like the Opti Growl. I would out fit the transom with a Vantage, put a 80lb Terrova with the I-pilot on the bow, stick a good set of networked electronics with sideimaging and down scan at both the bow and the driver center and call it day!

just ask Luveyes, he was on the ship when it went down!

Well, the transducer on the depth finder was flipped up a little and my old man didn't know it, we has traveling upstream in the missouri river with a 40-50MPH wind behind him last fall, thought he was in 8 feet, was in 6 inches.  Hit the bar with the wind and the current both pushing him onto the bar.  The water filled the boat but it did not sink because the sanbar was keeping it up right...the yamaha finally pulled it off of the bar and as soon as the support from the sand underneat was gone, it flipped.   Lucky nobody died because it was cold and dangerous.

I have never flied up that river faster, we were about 12 miles away, then when I got that phone call. I thought I was going to be plucking my old man and friends out of the river, but instead somebody beat me to them and they were shivering away like wet rats!  Funny now, but not so funny then.

What about the gas?

Yeah, lots of people opted for the 135 Opti.  But man, I don't know if I can get over the noise.  I mean, not terrible but not as good as a clear 4 either.  Would be a tough call.  Talk about a sweet setup though with a Warrior.  You get the Big Tiller steering PLUS ability to use Warrior's hookup.  I think anyway.  Maybe you cannot utilize both?  Never asked that question before.

Maintenance issue with the Opti's over traditional 4's?  More oil?

Found a 2005 115 yamaha in the box 2000 cheaper than 2009 and 3 yrs warranty think im leaning that way.  Was sold on Suziki 115 but tiller handle is alot more.  Tim I was leaning towards the 140 but mark out of river city told me that i would only see a couple mph more top end and that the 115 would have  more hole shot.  I just want somthing that is gonna start every time and that I can have a conversation while pulling cranks.  I hated my engine

I knew 4's put down slower mph but 2 mph from a 115 to a 140?  Just because of the Suzuki?

That is pretty eye opening.  I wouldn't have guessed that.  Yeah if you can get a hold of an "used" engine like that and it is brand new I would probably go for it.  Going to troll down nicely for pulling cranks.

I thought your engine completely crapped the bed?  Or was it fixable?
