People like to see them.

And for me to shoot.

Or try.

Maybe an excuse to get some hounds?

They eat leafy spurge.  Most cats in ND are vegetarian.

They kill varmints too.  No more porcupines for dogs to get into.

Because Global Warming is going to turn North Dakota to look like dried African safari and we wanted to be the first to get a jump on helping it along, because there are more that want to become Mountain Lion hunters than deer, fox, yote hunters.  Gazelle's, Zebras, Elephants, etc... will soon be stocked in the Badlands beginning 2015.

The state generates more money by telling the hunters that the lion is not a problem even though they know it is and then sell more licenses when they know for sure that the population of deer is down and the only cause is not lions     No different than Randy K saying that 100,000 coyotes are shot by people every year in ND  Hensen ta in Minot doesn't think the number is 5000.   That leaves 95000 to lay around and rot  But leave it to the game and fish to be right again

Sorry Tim, but I don't have any goo dideas for him, as i am starting to believe the that population is higher than what G&F want to believe and I see it causing more damage than natures check and balance of having the strong survive.  Other than having another game opportunity, what is their purpose.  I haven't seen any good lion recipes on here.

Just my .02!  Good luck with the speech "biggamehunter"!  Hope you get an "A". Let us know what kind of a grade the teacher gives ya!

Here can be your entire speech "mountains lions are so good for the state that they were hunted to near extinction in their native grounds in the early 1900's and were never re-introduced to the area by those who control and manage habitats and help steer our ecosystems(unless you buy the horse trailer BS) because they really aren't good for a whole lot the end.."of course clean up the spelling and punctuation a bit and hopefully your teacher has a sense of humor.

a couple years ago i asked the same exact question on a previous thread on FBO never really got any good answers. your probably going to have to come up with some spiel about how they are native to the area and provide a new and interesting game animal to harvest and also with the proper research may provide interesting new techniques for managing their preys' population, by sustaining predator numbers, That and in all realality they are one of the most bad ass predators around and there is always something good to be said about that. hope you are a good BS'er. i always hated having to make speeches on things i didn't agree with, but in a way thus is life.

They keep me out of the bar!!
Spend the winter chasing them around and taking pictures when the mutts get them in the tree.
They are good for keeping deer hunters away from your best spots, all you have to do is go to the local pub and show a picture of a lion and tell them where you took it(your spot) and they won't go near there for a million bucks!!!!!!!!!!!
Most folks are scared $hitless of them.

Someone in ND is going to cash in on specialty jerky.  Get the corpse from the GnF. Make jerky, all it needs is a name,  Cat Linx or Mule Deer through Lion, or Porcupine Poo.

They improve the genetics of the deer herd, leaving only the most wary to reproduce. This makes hunting more difficult. This in turn forces hunters to adopt more exotic tactics, gear, and drive around and road hunt more than ever. Viola... Stimulus of big game business all around. Pumas are pro business!

Whoop whoop! Can I get a high five for bidness in here??? (that's how Obama and crew finish up brainwashing themselves after a BS con-job think tank session, which seems appropriate here)

They're not "bad" , they're not "good".  They add diversity and adventure to the ecosystem and must be managed to the point of a sighting being extremely rare and the abject fear of humans is given.

Now here's some freakn' RUSH!!:

I estimate each puma generates 47 jobs. According to my obamanomics calculator (a product of Tandy Electronics, Inc.)

I like having the possibility of one sneak in while I'm calling coyotes.   Adds a bit of variety and ?suspense? maybe.
