If you can read this, thank a teacher. If you can read this in english, thank a vet.

Leupold B&C or LR reticle will get you to 500. Swarovski's TDS will get you to 600 if your rifle matches up with their subtensions. A repeatable elevation turret from anyone will get you to 600 and a ton further if you're able.

Here's the thing about shooting that far with any precision at all. You gotta chrongraph YOUR rifle and YOUR loads then run them on a ballistics program and then shoot paper at distance to prove the theoretics the ballistics program predicts. Without that you might as well urinate straight into the next Alberta Clipper, it'll get you just as far.

You don't have to buy a Chronograph (although they're only about $90), and you don't have to buy a ballistics program, there are a few free sites on the internet, but, you NEED to use them both.

Here's a very easy, free, online ballistics program that I use fairly regularly.

If you dont reload for your 7 mag you wont get to 600 with a B&C reticle,But if you get 140 boattails going at 3250 to 3300, accurately of course, you should be very close to 600 yards with a 300 yard zero,, as Horsager stated, these llines are just guides,, you need to check your elevations at all the yardages,, very few will be right on at say 400,, your load might hit at 386 or 433, thats why only practice to all your yardage lines is so very important, and you cant switch loads,, might seem like a lot of work,, also a subtension scope is only as good as the rangefinder you use

I run a Nikon BDC and have had no problems at extended ranges - past 600 yards.

Thats on both a DPMS .308 and a Winchester 7mag.

Alot of scope for much less than a leupold.

I even run a Burris and that scope with BDC is a beast, love it too.

Though I am an admitted Leupold zealot, in the case of shooting, especially at extended ranges it's much more important to understand/know the bullets flight path and how to intersect it than it is to put a certain brand of scope on your rifle. The scope just has to be repeatable.

Obviously I like Leupold, I also own one Zeiss conquest that tracks flawlessly. I've not stretched one past 400 but the V series Weavers are very good as well though now being owned by Meade that may have changed. I can even like the older "Made in Japan" Tasco World Class scopes, Made in Japan being the most important factor. If I'm not too terribly mistaken these are Nikon scopes before Nikon made scopes, at a bare minimum they had Nikon glass and Japanese assembly. Japanese assembly trumps Chinese, Philipino, and Taiwanese handily.

Interestingly I have an old Scope Chief, the thing is like new and god knows how old. Man the glass is clear and crisp for such an old devil of a scope.

Not really related I know....but hey it is a cool old scope.

Had a 2.5-8 Scopechief on my 22 for quite a while. Seemed to do just fine on that. I haven't a clue where that scope got off to.

A Scope chief was the first scope I even owned! Managed to slip it into the famiily budget while paying back student loans in the early 70's! Used it for years, carried it over every mountain in British Columbia and Alberta and beat the crap out of it while it never failed to direct that little lump of lead and copper to its destination! LOL Used it and abused it! Like the old Timex ad it sure "took a licking and kept on tickin!"
In a fit of insanity I sold both it and the rifle it was on, both full of dings and gouges gleaned from hard use over the years! I'd bet it is still bringing in the bacon for someone up there, assuming the Canadian gun police haven't melted it down in some kind of 'gun crematotium".....Wish I had it back!
I'm old fashioned but I still have no use for the modern range finding gee whiz stuff which I think takes a lot of the hunting out of hunting, and maybe a lot of the shooting (figuring windage and elevation, etc.) out of shooting, too! LOL Gimme a plain old duplex crosshairs and a basic 4X or low powered variable and I'll do the rest, I hope. If I feel I can't, then I won't shoot, sometimes to the chagrin of my hinting buddies! LOL "How come you didn't shoot?? That rifle would have blown a bullet over there just fine?" or "If you don't shoot you won't get nuthin!" (later range finder measured at 475 yards!) LOL
Some of you guys can use those BDC's just fine and regular readers of FBO know who these good and consciencious shots are! But I'd bet that most people who buy them never check them out properly or actually shoot them at the ranges they consistently miss or worse gut shoot and break legs at! LOL When they happen to manage to luckily lob one in and actually make a hit we all hear about it! LOL
Having said that, I love em for prairie rats!

Horsager,,
I have taken some flack for my love of the Tasco World Class and Plus scopes, Trashco, and so forth, But I have my share of Leupolds, Nikons, Sightrons,Super Snipers, Pentax, Redfield, Bushnell, Burris and others, I own a pile of scopes and still love the 6 power Tasco World Class,, just my eyes I guess,A very good scope for the Money would be a Bushnell 10x 3200, good optics and turrets work very well, this is a mildot But a fixed power,

Most folks who know about the Japanese produced Tasco World Class scopes don't let that cat outta the bag and snatch them up for themselves. Alas, I'm stubborn and single-minded when it comes to rifle scopes. 'Tis one of the few pieces of gear that I don't open mindedly explore all my options prior to purchase.
