Heading out bear hunting this week and I'm staying at a cabin on Big Bass Lake near Bemedji. We're planning on bass fishing in the mornings and I have no clue on how to fish for them. Any must have tackle I should take with me for this time of year?
The kill is the satisfying, indeed essential, conclusion to a successful hunt. But, I take no pleasure in the act itself. One does not hunt in order to kill, but kills in order to have hunted. Then why do I hunt? I hunt for the same reason my well-fed cat hunts...because I must, because it is in the blood, because I am the decendent of a thousand generations of hunters. I hunt because I am a hunter.- Finn Aagard

Floating frogs in the lilly pads are my favorite. It's like dinner and show.

"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." -Edmund Burke

"The time at which I stand before you is full of interest. The eyes of all nations are fixed on our Republic. The event of the existing crisis will be decisive in the opinion of mankind of the practicability of our federal system of government. Great is the stake placed in our hands; great is the responsibility which must rest upon the people of the United States. Let us realize the importance of the attitude in which we stand before the world. Let us exercise forbearance and firmness. Let us extricate our country from the dangers which surround it and learn wisdom from the lessons they inculcate."

oh boy! now you are speaking my language. wouls say a couple of good spinner baits, a couple good shallow to mid running shad raps in afew diff colors. m favorie is a "jig n pig" set up. use a skirted jig tipped with crayfish claws. get plenty of caws because the perch like to nibble them off. Jig em up Josh swears by the storm lures that look like sunfish but have never ued them. yu are going to have a ball! welcome to the wonderful world of bass fishing!

Husky Jerks in maybe a clown color would be a good crank to have. Otherwise, some big spinnerbaits tipped with a Power Worm, Gulp Frog, etc will be your best bet. Run your spinnerbaits through the reeds, amongst cattails, etc.

Your Storm "Baby Bluegill" or Crappie will be deadly when fished UNDER a dock or boatlift. Just be prepared to set the hook after it drops a foot under the water in 2 or 3 seconds.

Hope you get some good ones. Hope that helps. I guess I've never fished Big Bass Lake.

A weedless rigged plastic worm is tough to beat sometimes too.  If they don't hit top water, that is my go to rig.

I like that for skipping under docks and boatlifts too.

Flippin tubes with bullet weights are deadly. Top water might be the ticket too walking the dog with a "Chug a Bug" is a rush if you have never gotten into a top water bite before I suggest trying it.

20lb suffix braid it'll give you more pop on your top water and allow you rip your baits out of cover. If you feel the fish are not feeling the braid tie about 12" flourocarbon for a liter.

This time of year - -they have seen everything shallow --- go deeper 10-15 work the outside of the cabbage / weed lines -some of my biggest i caught in august / not in the shallows -- carolina rigged worm / moss green color.  Use your walleye knowledge to see em on the electronics.   Throw and retrieve at various speeds.    Guarantee for a biggy.
