what to do with my barking dogs, besides shoot them that is. not that i want to, but some of my neighbor's might. they are usually fine except for after dark. they must see stuff at night that makes them bark.

any recommended shock collars or some advice?

Just go to TSC or some other place and get a cheap no-bark collar.  I tried using my regular shock collar, but found I was usually too slow at hitting it and it seemed my dog had trouble relating the bark to the shock.  The no bark collar took care of that immediately.  One problem though.  Make sure the tags on her regular collar aren't really noisy.  I had trouble with the noise from her tags jingling making it shock her when I would run her.

i think i would only use it when they are in the kennel.

Pricewise I see them for quite a bit less on eBay, I still haven't purchased one yet though. Live in the country and when the dogs barking has bugged me it usually just turns out the dog was bored and wanted some attention.

i looked on tsc's website. they have one made by sport dog for 50 bucks. 6 levels of intensity. its a trusted name anyway. you look on ebay, there are thousands of them on there. do i trust those no name brands, no. and all the sport dogs i found on there were new and went from 50 and up in price.

I have the sportdog one from TSC with the levels.  It worked pretty quick.  My problem wasn't so much barking, but anxious whining in the vehicle and when she was in her mutt hut when hunting ducks.   Now I just use have to use it maybe one ride to the field  or one morning a year as a reminder.  It'd be nice if you could just rent one because they learn pretty quick.  They sure save on the headache of listening to a barking or whining dog.  If you live near Devils Lake, let me know and you can borrow mine for a bit.

One suggestion I would have. Make sure your bark collar recognizes vibration from the dog's throat as it barks. My first one didn't and it wasn't until my neighbor told me that I found out our small dog was setting off my Brit's bark collar when he barked next to him. If you have small dog barking problems, I highly recommend the citronella spray bark collars. I have quiet nights and no neighbor complaints now.

I broke my GSP by spraying him with the water hose everytime he  barked.   He did not like that and after a while all it took was for me to head for the hose and he was done.   The noise of the sliding  patio door was all it took after a while.

Of course if your dog is hot and figures you out, he'll bark so you will cool him off.

i saw what i think is the one you are talking about. this one sprayed some lemon scent when they started barking rather than shocking them. wasn't sure if it worked or not. i think they are around 50 bucks just like the sportdog one i am looking at now.

i ended up getting 2 of the sportdog SBC 6's yesterday. they have 6 levels of intensity and they work off the vibration in the dogs throat not just the audible noise of any barking dog. put them on with INSTANT results. i put the first one on the male. then, i walked to the back of the truck because whenever i do that, he thinks its time to go for a ride and he freaks out. he started barking and after every bark, he would stop and turn his head. once  the intensity level got up there a ways, he knew what was going on and quit.

the female was barking the whole time i was doing this. so, i went in and got hers. put it on. went inside and watched out the window. one bark and she started running in circles. didnt' know what was going on. then, she went and sat down.

i would HIGHLY recommend dropping 50 bucks on one of these if you have any trouble with a barking dog.
