Has anyone heard how far east they plan on drilling for oil?  HWY 281? HWY 83?

No clue but I have heard they have been "testing", however they do that I dont know, as far east as just west of Devils lake and through the Rugby area. "Rumor" has it they have found plenty of oil deposits and according to one guy that works for an oil company, it may make the Bakken look small in comparison. Personally, I hope it is all smoke because I would hate to see Devils lake invaded by thousands of extra people for the "peaceful" side of things however business in general would flourish, double edged sword.

Hess will be drilling approximately 100 wells from Dickinson to New Salem within the next year.

I struggle with making the Bakken look small.  I mean, the Bakken west of Highway 83 has pretty much vaulted ND to second place in oil production and we only sit behind Texas.  That says something about volume.

I don't have an answer other than if you draw a line north and south from Highway 37 near Parshall that is almost the imaginary line of exploration.  There is some sprouting further to the east along that line but most of it is going hard toward Montana and also south.  Stark county is about to be leased up if it hasn't already.  I know the Bakken is being explored all the way to the Rockies by geologists and if it continues to produce like the ND portion is I don't know if they will venture east.  Lots of water east I think.

Kenmare has some popping.  Plaza looked to have a wildcat near it as well.  So that's as far east as I've seen it.  As mentioned, I've heard Rugby had a wildcat as well but I've not seen that with my own eyes.  Bottineau was rumored to be the next play but that fizzled in a hurry.

Time and technology will dictate any moves.  Right now, it is a rush against the EPA or whatever might hinder fracking (whether rightly or wrongly).  But for now, I don't see it going anymore east than it has already.

Once you start seeing helicopters with orange bags hanging from them, crews in utility ATV rigs, miles and miles of extension cords and then the big scrapper look-a-like seismo trucks you won't have oil exploration any time soon.

Im with Waly.

If they keep moving east pretty much all the desire I had to move back to ND would probably be gone.  I guess I could find a good paying job pretty easy, but the real reason to live in ND is the lifestyle.  Which is getting completely turned upside down out west and would do the same as it moves east.

I have heard the "rumors" of oil all the way east to the Pembina area.

Tim, most of stark county has been leased up for the last five years and there are between 5-10 rigs drilling there depending on them hoping back and forth across to the the Billings county side.  I know leasing is moving further south then it is east.  I have heard wells as far as Taylor.........all the way to New Salem would be news to me, not saying it isnt true though.  There have been wells drilled south of Dickinson and the leasing is all the way down to New England, about 30 miles south of Dickinson.  Guess its not an east/west answer but rather a southern answer.  As far as your imaginary line goes, I would say that is a pretty good estimate saying south of parshall, I was on one well just east of Parshall and it paled in comparision to anything that was just a few miles back to the west.

I concur with what you said, I asked if it could actually be part of the Bakken and was told not sure but it could be.

The Bakken sh$thole is already way too close to Minot. This fairly quiet town of Minot is a hellhole. I'm not directly involved with the oil business but the company i work for is, it has given myself nothing but higher cost of living, traffic congestion, etc. The people in this town that had and have average jobs are now poverty level, i feel for them more than anything.

Before oil Minot had congestion, higher cost of living, etc.  The oil is adding to it but if you go by ratio it hasn't sky rocketed compared to pre-oil.  When I moved to Minot the oil had just started to get drilled.  Minot is just in the spot where natural rural to urban development was already underway in a city that was resisting change...good ole boy club.

But yeah, cannot argue the oil explosion of now is adding to the strains.  Not to mention a little flood we had last summer.

Possible Bakken attempt between Glenburn and Lansford, They started building the pad this week.  The land owners know people in good places.  I dont know what they are after, but rumor has it that it will go deep.  Seizmograph crews have spent the last 2 years working west and east of Lansford.

I am 12 south of Kenmare and they did drill a well 13 south and 2 west they said the driller did something wrong and they plugged it the next closest is 7 west and 12 miles south of Kenmare between Coulee and Stanley there are 39 wells pumpimg and 13 have been drilled waiting for fraking or are being drilled.   There is 2 east of Kenmare but they are shallow above 10,000 feet somewhere in the 6500 feet and those rigs are a lot smaller than the  drilling rigs in the Bakken.  Talked to the guy who drills rat holes and he says the closest hole he put in the ground was 2 miles north and 5 miles west of Berthold  He said he has drilled a lot of rat holes and all but one has produced oil after they drill for oil.
He also said that he drilled 2 rat holes SW of Berthold that some company is looking for a large deep natural gas pocket It is suppose to be one of the largest natural gas wells if they find the pocket of gas

He has been in the oil industry for 40 yrs and he said if the natural gas wells come through the area will double in population the company thinks it would be the 3rd largest natural gas pocket in the US.

What I heard was they are looking for a different shale formation in Lansford and Glenburn  something like the oil shale in Canada something around the 20,000 foot depth. if they find it it is suppose to be good oil  as good as the bakken or the three forks there are shallow oil wells in the Lansford and Glenburn and Westhope and Mohall now.

I guess I shouldn't have used the word lease.  The activity is ramping up because the leases are coming to expiration.  Nobody wants to release where proven success is...that would get mighty expensive.  Although, I'm sure Stark was leased at a little higher clip than we were...we got the boots to us.  Nothing like being the guinea pig!

Anyway, ya, I guess I should have said more along the lines of being actively punched now.  It is only going to ramp up more as we agree it is moving south or NW at the moment.  The east/west push hasn't cracked much of that line I said earlier.

Its tough to keep track.  Lots of players.

Now that I recall, I did see a rig drilling just west of Berthold but I think that plays into the same "field" that is being drilled in the Kenmare country.

Like I said, it is a game of many players.  Cannot keep track anymore.
