baitfish in Sak

I was out of Little Beaver the other night, and my depthfinder was graphing what appeared to be swarms and swarms of something.  I also saw a lot of small silver fish jumping out of the water.  The water was just dirty enough so as a guy couldn't get a good look at em.

I did catch a couple dinks...saugeye I believe, so there were some predator fish hanging around.

Do you think what I saw jumping out were smelt?  Whatever they were, there appears to be plenty of them to go round.  I think ND should fund a project to lower the turbidity of the west end of Lake Sakakawea.  I hope it starts clearing up soon.

I say to hell with that pot o' gold.

I guess I'd say smelt vs cisco.

That would be awesome however I have no idea how they could be able to get clay to settle out that quickly in a worthwhile fashion.

I dont go around guessing cup sizes either I just know a nice rack when I see one.

Don't they die off once the water warms???

"When we step into the outdoors, we have the privilege of standing in the presence of God through the power and majesty of His creation. That makes hunting more than a sport or a hobby. It's a calling to something greater. And that transforms the places that we stand into something more than a cropfield or a pasture or a mountain. It makes that place Hallowed Ground."

Tim's most likely right, I've found & netted more than the usual amount of spottail shiners in the last couple years in sakakawea and a few of the creeks that feed it.  I've also caught several common shiners, emerald shiners, fathead minnows, bigmouth shiners, and a handful of other species that aren't as plentiful.

but my guess would also be spottails

I don't think short was using the perch, just the eye. He just didn't have the heart to remove the eye in fear of hurting said perch.

They sure do fight tho, fun to catch. If you were throwing them back in, you might have caught the same one 10 times. They are one of the few fish that give pike a run for their money as far as aggression goes.

People like to complain. It's just nature.. nobody is forced to read anything here. In a sense, your complaining as well.
