My sympathy goes out to his family. He was a great person to have on this website for all sorts of fishing advice. At least the man went out in style doing what he loved.

RIP Eddy! Thoughts and prayers to the family and friends. Although I have never met him, I sure enjoyed his posts and reports over the years. Sad day indeed.
The kill is the satisfying, indeed essential, conclusion to a successful hunt. But, I take no pleasure in the act itself. One does not hunt in order to kill, but kills in order to have hunted. Then why do I hunt? I hunt for the same reason my well-fed cat hunts...because I must, because it is in the blood, because I am the decendent of a thousand generations of hunters. I hunt because I am a hunter.- Finn Aagard

I just heard the bad news too and double checked Facebook.  I worked with Backwater at Gander for 3 years and always stop by when I'm in Fargo to bs with him.  He taught me tons of little tricks and was great to hang around.  His passion for fishing was immense and his love for sharing knowledge was greater.

Thank you Ed, for your teachings and friendship.  May the Lord bring you home in his landing net.

Unbelievable.  No "Saga of Kermit the Frog" this year.  My prayers are with the family.  Godspeed Eddie.  Save us some sumos on the other side.

I can't belive this. Nicest Red River TRUE Veteran I knew. In all honesty, I consider myself a River Rat but he was a GENUINE Red River Junkie. When I first started guiding he called me up out of the blue to offer me a couple trips that he'd booked.

I will do my best to continue the Saga of Kermit and his journey to the Land of Sumo's, in honor of Ed.............

I never got a chance to meet him, but I PM'nd him a few times and he was great for helping a guy out.  He obviously had a tremendous amount of fishing knowledge and an absolute smorgasboard of Sumo eyes and cats that were hauled in on his line over the years.  This is a sad day for the fishing world.  God bless you Eddy and best wishes to your family and friends.

When I am fishing by myself, I will be thinking of this and it will cause me to be more cautious.

The Red has taken far too many lives. This goes to show that even the most experienced are not immune to the inherent dangers that a river posses.
