I am looking for a semiautomatic varmint gun. Would be used for yotes, prairie dogs, etc. Open to suggestions, should I go with a AR platform or a browning, remington, benelli, etc. How is the accuracy of the BARs compared to the AR styles.

The AR is without peer for piling up PD body count.

I think the BAR's are a little more accurate than the AR's. Not a tack driver by anymeans. I have a BAR in a .243 and its really nice for follow up shots and I have no problems hitting a coyote out to 250, even though a longer shot hasn't presented itself yet so I'm not too sure on that.

wack em and stack em ND style

The AR will smoke the BAR with crap ammo at worst and when fed good ammo will have bolt action varmint guns blushing.

1st 100yd 5 shot group from a 16" DPMS, rounds #4-#9 ever through the rifle and it was bulk 55gn Ultramax:

It shoots better with handloaded 50gn V-max.

This isn't even debatable. AR is the choice "hands down".

There are many more options for tweaking accuracy with an AR. I don't think you can get a heavy barreled BAR. If you are shooting PD's you can shoot until it is hot hot hot. That would destroy a BAR.

There are AR makers that will GUARANTY MOA. You won't get that from Browning. Nothing wrong with BAR's (although I have a cousin that would disagree), but they aren't the varminter that a AR platform gives you.

May as well get a single shot since that will probably be the last type of rifle confescated by our government :(
