ATV Ice Fishing Accessories

Going to be using an ATV for ice fishing this year.  Biggest question right now is what to do for heat.  Have a Mr. Heater sunflower, but lugging around a 20 pound propane tank plus the Mr. Heater head seems like it could be problematic.  Is there a good system for hauling tanks, or should I get a Big Buddy heater instead.  A little worried about not enough heat from a Big Buddy.

Any other must-have accessories for ATV ice fishing?

Also, what about a hard pole case.  Anyone have the Otter, MTM, or Lakewood case?

Get a smaller propane tank. 5 or 10 lb

aluminum are nice - but pricey

20lb tank fits perfect in milk crate and can be attached to ATV racking easily.

FYI,  the Big Buddy on high spits out 4000 more BTU's than a sunflower when it's on high.

I've got the otter case. On its 4th season now. Been very pleased with it. I can cram 8-10 combos in there.  Have not broke a rod in transport since I got it. My 0.02

Milk crate and a 20 lb is the way to go. The 5 to 10 lbs are nice but expensive and they charge you just as much to fill as a 20 lb in most locations. I made my own wooden rod box with foam insert to hold rods in place, I can put 6 combos in and it works great, on its 6th season now and never a broken rod or tangle. I would recommend some sort of auger holder instead of just strapping it to the rack, lots of companies make them.

In Fargo they charge by gallon/lb for propane. Filling a 10 costs 1/2 as much as filling a 20.

My buddy has an otter monster box on his atv. It is great for hauling and protecting your gear.

Since my father in law and I finished the ice house this spring I've been itching to get out.

Ice fishing innovations makes a great case for rods just google ice fishing innovations. Also, make sure you get an auger rack. I have a cheap one from cabelas but digger anchor makes a nice one too.

I use 3 gun rack holders for the auger and secure with tarp straps.  Last year, I mounted my Trap genz style on the ATV, but don't like the length.  This year, I'm putting a rear drop down basket on and building a wood box around it to keep snow out ( tracks throw a lot if snow).  I've looked at the otter box at the Minot Home of Economy and couldn't get a 5gallon bucket in it.  I second the milk crate with the propane tank.  I put that in the real and secure with a tarp strap.  I also added a cloth bag behind the seat for more gear and it extends the seat.  I have the otter and Ice fishing innovation rod box and like them both.  Never broken a rod in either of them on Winnipeg.  The Ice Fishing innovation is definitely heavier duty than the otter, but $150 vs $70.  It is bigger though.  I now use the otter predominately for pan fish rods and the other for walleye.

i like the mr heater over the buddy because you can turn the sun flower so it faces straight up and cook deer sausage on it in a frying pan

ditto on the milk crate

Is that what you use, Ahab?  Do you have a larger external tank you run or do you use the 1 pound tanks?

I use a combination of both.  When I know I am going to be mobile and not out all day, I use the little tanks.  When I am going out for a full day or 2, I use a small external 5 lb tank.

I know why they call them monsters... Enslow has one.

We made a third run back to the truck just to retrieve his rods. Took up the entire otter sled.
