Richest Catfish Tournament in History!

USCATS Pro-Trail Tournament

Great Lakes District V, May 22, 2004

Located near Monroe, Michigan, this is the first Catfish tournament held here in the land of Walleye and Salmon. We have an unbelievable number of large Channel cats here because there is no pressure on them. On any given outing, we routinely catch 30-50 fish per angler, and numerous big fish in the 10-20 pound class. Our goal is 151 boats which would mean a total purse of $24,160.00 Plus Thousands more in Sponsor cash and prizes.

The Detroit River is about 32 miles long and runs from Lake St. Clair to Lake Erie. The city of Detroit lines the river for about 13 miles. The deepest section of the river is between Belle Isle and Zug Island. The river is 50 feet deep at its deepest point. The narrowest width of the river is about 1/2 mile. The average current of the river is about 1.7 miles per hour. The maximum current is 7 miles per hour.

The Detroit River has more 21 islands that have altogether 72 miles of shoreline. The largest island is Grosse Isle, which is about ten square miles in size. The Top Bait is Shad which can only be netted in Lake Erie by law. Cast nets (not exceeding 8 feet in diameter without walls or sides) may be used to take shad in the Great Lakes, Lake St. Clair, and the Detroit River.

Fish must be hooked in the mouth. Fish not hooked in the mouth must be returned to the water immediately. No more than two lines per person and no more than four hooks or lures may be used.
