Local Taxidermist Does it Again

Jamie Risovi of New Rockford, ND recently traveled to Lubbock, Texas to compete in the 2008 National Taxidermy Competition (NTA). Jamie entered a whitetail deer posed in an artistic manner browsing on an apple tree.  Very similar to last year's competition his artistic touch brought home several awards including the 2008 Whitetail Deer National top prize.  Jamie was honored to take home top awards from the competition but he was more excited for his two children who competed in the Children's Division.  Haley (age 13) placed first with a whitetail deer she entered and Lucas (age 11) took home an impressive second place with his coyote mount.  On behalf of the Total Outdoor Network and proud resident of North Dakota I would like to extend my congratulations to Jamie, Haley and Lucas for their accomplishments.

The National Taxidermy Competition is held every other year and literally draws taxidermists from all over the nation under the keen eye of the Nation's top judges.  No other nonprofit competition comes close to the honor and prestige associated with winning a major award at the NTA.  Because the whitetail deer is the most commonly mounted, most scrutinized, and studied animal, the attention to detail and creativity makes it one of the most difficult categories to win. A winning mount at this level proves that a taxidermist has mastered his art and created the highest quality mount through years of studying and perfecting his techniques.

Here are the 2008 awards Jamie’s whitetail deer mount has won thus far:

Award 1:  National Champion - Whitetail Deer

Award 3:  Taxidermist's Choice - Best Whitetail Deer
