Bass Bandits Update

The 2006 Badlands Bass Bandit's tournament tour stopped at Lake Nelson on August 5th to hold it's fourth tournament of the year. With the fishing conditions of calm waters and cool temperatures, the bass bandits had a good outlook on fishing. However, the fishing was slower than previous Lake Nelson fishing trips. Bigger fish were not biting and it was tough to catch a solid keeper to put in the live well. As the tournament went on the weather got plain ugly with the wind picking up to 25 - 30 MPH with gusts up to 40, and the clouds moved out causing the air temperature to rise. To each angler's surprise, the fishing seemed to pick up and anglers boated a lot of big fish.
Michael Deyle of Bismark took 1st place weighing in a monsterous three fish limit of 15lbs 15oz. His co-anlger Dave Morgan also of Bismark took 2nd place weighing in a impressive three fish limit that tipped the scales to 12lbs 15oz. Michael Deyle also captured the Big Bass (pictured) of the tournament award by weighing a huge 6lbs 13oz largemouth. Other anglers weighing in big fish were Robert Reinbold with a 5lb 12oz largemouth, Paul Reinbold with a 5lbs 6oz largemouth and Deryk Voller with a 4lb largemouth. The Badlands Bass Bandits will return to Lake Nelson on September 9th to fish the last tournament of the 2006 year.
The fifth tournament site for the Bass Bandits was held on Sweet Briar Lake on August 26th. Many anglers were skeptical about fishing Sweet Briar due to all of the bad reports posted throughout the summer months, but all in all it was a good day. Out of the 12 members that fish the tournament there were 20 largemouth bass caught and weighed. Alan Hildabrant of South Dakota took 1st place honors with a three fish limit of 9lbs 8oz. Hildabrant was able to squeek by Amanda Reinbold who took second place honors with a three fish limit that weighed 9lbs 4oz. Reinbold also took the big bass of the tournament award with a largemouth that weighed 4lbs 12oz. Coming in with a strong third place finish was John Mayer weighing in at 9lbs even. Although, there wasn't a large amount of fish caught, the quality of fish that were caught averaged 2lbs. Many of the tournament anglers agreed that despite the bad reports, Sweet Briar is still indeed, "Sweet."
