Fourth Mountain Lion Taken, One More Fills Season Quota
A mountain lion hit by a passing motorist Monday evening south of Dawson in Kidder County counts as the fourth cat taken during this year’s experimental season. The quota established for this season is five, so the season will close immediately if another lion is taken. Otherwise, the season ends March 11.
The lion was a 3-year-old, 100-pound female, said Dorothy Fecske, furbearer biologist for the North Dakota Game and Fish Department.
The season quota includes road-kills, incidentals taken by traps or snares, lions taken by landowners in defense of livestock, and those taken for human safety issues.
