2008 Shoreline Access Updated May 16, 2008

Corps Announces “2008” Shoreline/Vehicle Access Policy
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced this week that the public is welcome to use vehicles on the shoreline of 20 designated areas around Lake Sakakawea. These areas are in addition to existing boat ramp accesses. The Corps encourages the public to use these areas to drive vehicles to the shoreline for fishing and other day use activities. Designation of these areas is to accommodate the shore anglers or day-use visitors who are hindered by the distance of shoreline between normal pool and the existing water’s edge.
Vehicles should be used for transporting people and gear associated with day-use recreation activities to and from the waters edge. The public is prohibited from driving ATV’s, digging or collecting artifacts, camping, or having open fires. Rules signs are posted at the entrance to these areas. White or brown fiberglass posts, stating “No Motor Vehicles” aligned perpendicular to the waters edge mark the parameters of the shoreline access areas.
Shore anglers or day-use visitors can also access the shoreline at any existing boat ramp area. Vehicular operation in these areas is restricted within designated parking areas.
The majority of the shoreline along Lake Sakakawea is open to the public via walk-in access. Areas that are closed for preservation of cultural resources and threatened and endangered species will be posted.
Shoreline access points for vehicles for the “2008” season are: Government Bay, Deadman’s Bay (west Wolf Creek), Indian Hills (Good Bear Bay), Deepwater Creek (low water ramp), Fish & Camp Court (Deepwater Bay area), Sanish Bay (Aftem Development), Four Bears, Reunion Bay, White Earth, Little Beaver, Long Creek, Tobacco Garden, McKenzie Bay, Hale Marina, Beaver Creek, Renner Bay, Beulah Bay (Pebble Beach), Beulah Bay (part of the recreation area), Charging Eagle, Twin Buttes (east of the pow-wow grounds).
The shoreline access point at Skunk Creek has been closed due to the erosion on the access road.
