I am not seeing large numbers of fawns. But 3 weeks ago a coworker who works the county and township roads with me asked if I had been seeing any twins and I replied that I haven't. Wasn't a week later I saw triplett's, it was a first for me !!!

Should I apply for a doe tag in 3A4? We can try plan a day north of Towner for trophy doe hunting !!!

It should not be a surprise with the winter we had. Does understress will abort to save themselves even very late into the pregnacy. To understand this, one only has to look at the Jan deer survey done over 2J1 and 2J2 where Jan early Fed numbers showed a decline of about 5% and 25% or more when done again 6 weeks later!

That period of time resulted in a lot of fawns not being carried to term even if the doe survived!
In my lifetime I have seen fence row to fence row farming and the return of CRP and game to the landscape. Now we face again the prosepect of fence row to fence row again! Sportsman are our own worst enemy in that we fail to look forward and focus to much on the now!

I have seen a handful of does.  Really, haven't seen that many deer but I haven't been out during the times to see them either.  I do know an island where a mule deer and two fawns calls home.  They still have spots and enjoy their little secluded playground!  Hope they are able to make the swim when they get older!

All the does that we have seen south of VC have had single fawns with them.  Normally, we see twins and trips.  With this past winter, I am not surprised.

We seem to have about the same numbers here in south central ND. And to think there isn't any CRP for miles. How can that be?

N.E. corner of the state mostly single calfs this year. I have a 40 acre bush with a few does every year. easy winter it is twins and once in awhile triplets. But some I think it is singles and a month later they have twins out. I think sometimes they just take one calf at a time.

Numbers seen alright around.  Seen quite a few sets of twins, not as many triplets has seen last year.

Seen my first set of antelope quadruplets last week.

I live in 3A4 and do quite a bit of hunting in 2K1.  Our scouting and trailcams are showing fawn numbers to be down from previous years.  I am seeing some twins but mostly singles and an unusaul numbers of does seem to be dry.  Not surprising though.  We got hit with that big snow opening weekend of rifle last year and it just kept dumping.  They had to work pretty hard for food for about 5-6months.
Put down the gun and step away from the truck.
Its time to hunt!!

I don't know about you guys, but I have been seeing a lot of fawns in SE ND. I don't think the snow hurt the deer as bad as I originally thought they would. Something that I have not been seeing a lot of is pheasant chicks. I think it will still be fairly decent this year, but boy things are going to go downhill in a hurry in SE ND for the birds. I think I might have to take up waterfowl.

Hopefully this winter will be a mild one.... get the numbers of all wildlife back up to good numbers. That 40 below garbage last year really took it's toll.
