I've heard of a few going, no reports of anyone tagging any elk.  We'll be going back out the week of Oct 4th to see if any cows are to be found, we're needing to get two tags filled.  Like everyone else, we're looking for any info to help us out too.
Happy trails.

I just got back from there last weekend.  I ended up with a 4x4 on Friday morning, my buddy got a nice 5x5 on Tuesday morning.  He got his in Section 31 next to the park (NE corner) and it had some cows with it.  I got mine in Section 13 (north side of park west of river), just take the Maa Dah Hay trail to the park fence and wait for some mountain bikers or pepole to walk through the park.  We saw some really nice bulls and cows on the park; but the one I got was the first one I saw in 8 days that I could shoot.

PM me if you need more information.

Just think, next year these early rifle elk hunts will be a thing of the past, and bowhunters can once again have the badlands to themselves for at least a few weeks, until youth opener.

That is if Randy Kreil is good to his word.

I say to hell with that pot o' gold.

I saw a nice 6x6 shot this morning, looked like around 20 cows with it.

Those were on the north end of gov. creek road, there was a big heard just inside of the park fence off of the Fryburg exit when I went by there tonite, looks like they are coming out there during the night, by the way the top of the park fence is bent over, I'm sure they are going to the wheat field on the eastside of the road, which is posted. Gov creek road is where I see the majority of the ek the past week or so, most are running to get back in the park. I also saw a couple bulls on the north end of Lower 30 road a week or two ago

Where are the real hunters at, it takes how long to get a tag for most people, but yet there are some that need every "exact gps location" to hunt. I was lucky and drew a tag, did my scouting, hunted hard for 7 days and on the 7th morning shot my elk. The internet just ruins the "hunting."

I was thinking the same thing but you can't nail a guy for trying to use all his resources to use up a one in a lifetime tag. The first 10 days that I went out, we didn't see any elk and thats with knowing the unit we were hunting in really well. Finally We found a few nice bulls in late November.

Yeah.  Some of us don't have the luxury of taking a whole week off from work either.

North Dakota elk hunting's a joke.  I waited 20 years for a tag.  Shoulda paid the 500 bucks and gone to Sheridan while my uncle was still alive.

It's also hard to get one when you live half way across the state and only have the weekends to hunt and gas is almost 3 bucks a gallon.

It is the weekend now. Since you didn't get GPS coordinates last night you decided to stay home?

It's not that bad.

Walleye fan hit it right on. When i go bow hunting down there i can't believe the amount of elk hunters that dont get out of their trucks. Elk in ND are not going to run across the road. Just cause you have a cow doesnt mean you dont have to work for one.
