Wondering if anyone has had experience digiscoping.  Using a spotting scope as a powerful long lense and a run of the mill digital camera.
Are those Scheel's adapters of the ones Cabelas have any good?
I've been playing with a Scheels brand  a bit.   The only way I can get the outfit to focus is to have the spotting scope on the lowest power and the digital camera on its highest telephoto setting?  I must be doing something wrong....The pictures seem OK but they are so magnified and narrow except at extreme range that they have pretty limited usefulness.

I've got one that I use with an older digital camera.  I typically have the camera on the lowest zoom/auto focus. I take the spotting scope and get that zoomed in/focused where I want it.  Attach the adapter with camera and set the timer on the camera to take the photo.

Takes a bit to get the camera centered correctly on the adapter but seems to work fairly well.

I'll send you some pictures that I took with it. I have them at home still on the camera so it will be later tonight when I can send them.

Bobkat, I've used the ones from Scheels and they work ok except that once you have them attached to the spotting scope you can't use the zoom. Been using it on my Swarovski STS80 w/ a Fuji FinePix V10 and what works the best for me is to manual adjust the zoom until the edges are gone and use the timer on the camera to take the pic. There's also a product distributed through www.Tinesup.com called the scope cam adapter; http://www.tinesup.com/scope_cam.html that had great reviews.

There’s also some good information @ http://www.digiscoped.com/ and  http://www.monstermuleys.com/

Bobkat,
I have done a fair share of digiscoping and for best results leave you spotter on 20x and never any higher.  Zoom with your camera and focus with the spotting scope.  I am currently using the MK-1 camera adapter for my Vortex Skyline ED scope.  It is very simple to use.  The picture quality will very depending on your spotter.  So to answer your question no, it doesn't sound like you are doing anything wrong.  Which scope are you using?  Remember that most of the pictures turn out just ok, so take lots.

Here are a few of my best this year.  My avatar is another.
