Antelope hunt this fall

There are a couple of us heading out west this fall to do some archery antelope hunting.  If anyone has any info, tips or anything at all I'd really appreciate it.  We're kind of the blind leading the blind right now.  Or if anyone wants to go you're more than welcome.  I've never hunted antelope so this will be a first for me.  Pretty excited.  I'm hoping we can find a spot where we can at least get a couple opportunities.  We'll see.

Thanks.

Well, the date and place is set.  We're heading to the Crawford area, just need some maps and a place to stay.  Can't wait, need to start practicing those long 40+ yard shots.

Gregg;
I am jealous of you bowhunters, because I didn't draw either my Antelope or Elk tags with my muzzle-loader. I have stayed at the campgrounds at the Fort, they also rent cabins and rooms. I've also stayed at hte Townline Motel in Crawford, because they have some rooms with kitchinettes (it is old,it has always been clean the times we stayed there). I also have the Sioux County platte ownership maps that I used when I hunted Elk in 2003. There has been some changes in ownership since then, but there shouldn't be too many. I overlayed the areas that I hunted with clear plastic topo maps, so I would like to get them back, but you are welcome to use them if you would like.

Thanks Dave!  This will be my first trip on antelope period, so it should be quite the excursion.  We were thinking th eTownline Motel right now.  Just need to call out there.  Would really appreciate the use of those maps.  That would help a ton.  Going to be taking off for ND again here tomorrow or Friday, but will touch base with you Monday when I get back.  Thanks!

Are you a subscriber to the North American Hunting club? The issue I got before the current one had alot of stuff about antelope hunting. Just thought it might be helpful.

Yeah I sure am.  Those were some really good articles.  I'm an awful person at remember what I read though.  I learn by doing.  This is going to definently be a learning experience I believe.  Still can't wait!

When are you heading out west for your goat hunt? I wish you lots of luck. I'd like to get away myself, but with my daughter getting hitched next month, I don't have any spare time for a while. Look oout October, I may get free!!!!!

Packing the truck tonight!  That will give me time to add the stuff I would have forgotten wed. Getting pretty hard to contain myself here, I've been waiting for 6 months for this!

Bet that you won't sleep much tonight! Good luck and have fun. Try to contact Lon while you are out there, and if you do, say "Hi" from me.

I didn't sleep to bad actually!  A little surprised.  Have a killer cold though, dang weather changes and the fall pollen gets to me.  Change of plans, we're leaving this morning instead of this afternoon so the decal pics won't be up til I get back.  Basicically they are a white sticker with our logo on it and it is 3X6 inches.  Anyone who wants one just email me @ greggkathol@hotmail.com.  To cover a little bit of my cost how does $3 sound?

No goats, but we had a ton of fun.  By far the most difficult hunting I've ever done.  It was 100+ each day and that didn't help any.  Quite the adventure as well.  Lost and alternator luckily close to town we got very lucky in that situation.  Story to come!

I saw a dandy buck yesterday while hunting doves. He is a definite 16 incher! One satellite buck and 8 does/kids in the harem. They used the waterhole just 80 yds to my right. Neat! I may have to take up the goat pursuits again.

We sat the waterhole, got caught in a pretty bad storm.  Lightnening all around us.  Came up quick.  We probably should have sat in the blind more.  Would have been our best shot, but both of us really enjoy the stalking.  Couldn't get away from that. : )

Thor, you're making me want to head out and give it another try this year.  Still got the tag to fill.

Gregg saw the same buck with 7 does again today at about 200 yrds before he nervously moved his harem over the ridge. I wonder how close I could get when I am NOT carrying my 28 gauge????

Thor, how about I come out and fill my tag on that buck?

Had a good weekend in the tree stand though.  Missed a doe last night.  I think I just misjudged the distance b/c it went right over her back.  Thought for sure I'd have some jerky making to do this weekend.  Oh well, will be trying again this week. I messed that one up, hopefully it doesn't happen again.
