Aluminum Posted Signs

Has anyone had any experience with having Aluminum Posted Signs made up in the F-M area? I had a quote done and the price for one was a little outrageous. I found a couple places online that seem to be more reasonable, but would rather keep it local if possible.

You have setup costs and with a one off will all be in that price. And one posted sign would only be a novelty item unless trying to post a totally fenced area with only one gate.

I checked with a place in Bismarck and they were $6.00 each.   I would need 35 of them.   what price did you get?

I wanted to order 30 of them, but they wanted 10 bucks a piece. I ordered mine through Forestry Suppliers last night for just under 2 bucks per.

Wow i guess i will check that out?   Alum with white background and black letters?   They will put your name of them also?   i think you need landowners name to be legally posted?

For 6.00 each was for Orange background black letters.

Try looking closely at someone elses signs in your area. Should have a manufacturers name on them. Might at least give you some ideas.

I think this is correct, you cant post someone elses land with your name if you arent leasing it or something similar.

Depends on what you mean by legal, In visiting with wardens I have always been told that if the intent shows it to be posted, it is posted, even an old tire over a post .

A field needs to be legally posted with a name, date, and phone number for me to leave it alone. Otherwise I take the tire with me, and shoot a limit of rooties, and pee on the mail box...
Hunter- farmer relations is what I am all about.

No wonder more and more land is getting posted, and more landowners unwilling to let people on. Keep ignoring posted signs fellas. Have fun explaining yourselves to the landowner, warden and/or sheriff. Is it that hard to do some research or knock on a door?

Posting and Trespass

  • Only the owner or tenant, or an individual authorized by the owner, may post land by placing signs giving notice that no hunting is permitted on the land. The name of the person posting the land must appear on each sign in legible characters. The signs must be readable from the outside of the land and must be placed conspicuously not more than 880 yards (one-half mile) apart. As to land entirely enclosed by a fence or other enclosure, posting of signs at or on all gates through the fence or enclosure constitutes a posting of all the enclosed land.

Purchase a county atlas is what i do.  i have them for 10 counties in the State.  Yes land is sold etc but if you make a phone call you will be able to find out landowner.

These are really just guidelines as far as i can tell. If theres 1 sign on a random approach in a section, thats 8 years old and half torn off, its still posted. Owner calls GW and you will be screwed. Ive seen it happen. Its bs i agree, but the way it is.

I agree with you on this.   I would still assume it is posted and would make arrangements to find land owner.   Or just move on.

How about in the asparagus, morel  or shed  scenarios … does the sign have to specifically stated "No Trespassing” if it is just a “No Hunting” sign can you venture out and about on the property?

 Partner lost his hunting rights for 2 years because of this. Field was not posted correctly, 1 old dilapidated posted sign on 1 corner of the field. Decided he was good to go. Landowner came out to the field and got buddies license plate number and called game warden. It eventually went to court, buddy went back to take pics of the old posted sign and all other non-posted corners and approaches, and wouldnt you know it! Everything had brand new posted signs on every corner and approach less than a week later! total bs.

I have plat books for the counties I hunt the most in. Well worth the money. I agree posted signs should be signed and legible as the proclamation states, but if it is taken to court, signed or not signed, you will not win. It is just best to find out who owns the land and get permission.

I would think if it is Posted with what ever language on it i would get permission.   Man just think if the landowner didn't even know he had asparagus on his property and you got permission and gave him some after you were done!  

I helped a guy change a tire about a month ago out by Mckenzie and you know what i have permission to hunt on his land!   Before i go out there each time i will make sure i call him (everytime)   Just FYI he had a pistol on his seat as he stated he hates people that tresspass on his land!!

Warden never went out there while my buddy was hunting. He got a phone call from GW and letter in the mail a few days later.

 On no hunting signs all you need is your name not a date,on trespass signs you do not need a date or name  So if the sign  is a no hunting or trespassing  and has no name on it you can still get nailed for trespassing. the posting regs are in your ND hunting guide under posting and trespass

Wags 86, Pheasant 54 and Big Lunch

You all are misunstanding the law in some way.  Obviously you could be given a ticket for anything but wardens are law enforcement officers and are supposed to enforce the laws, not make up laws!!!!  If I was given trespass ticket and the land was not posted properly I would feel comfortable that a judge would dismiss it if it was obvious that the posting did not comply with the Century Code requirements.  I have a close relationship with a ND District judge and he and I have discussed this at length and he agrees with my comments and that the posting person also has the responsibility to comply with the law if they don't want people on their land.
