Wow, what the heck is going on already?

Belcourt's fighting high water, now the Souris is going to go up.  Gonna be a tuff spring if this keeps up.  Not exactly the areas I would have expected to be first in line for water problems this spring.

Note:  The Souris is going to be quite dangerous ice from here on through spring.

Was out on the mouse river north of towner yesterday-lost bridge-ice was ok,with alot of snow, slush on it-its the highest ive seen it this time of year,in many years!!!Ranchers are out pushing snow off the river bottoms so the ground will freeze and they can get all those hay bales off before spring flood. It got to wet this fall for them to get the bales off then.

Most of the creeks in the turtle montains have been running all winter from the weight of all the snow pushing down on the ice.   A couple of days ago I talked with an old timer who has lived on the same farm all his life and he said he has never seen this much snow up here.

This might help alleviate some water issues.  However, if the rivers STAY at above normal levels up into March with no additional melting it could be a bad deal.

I see I didn't read that correctly.  That is the Souris.  I just saw Foxholm and assumed the Des Lacs.

Help with removing ice on the Souris?

hey guys just wanted to let you know about the belcourt flooding situation, the creek that runs through town is flooding right now, all the water is coming from the lake (belcourt lake) north of town.  with the amount of snow we got and the last couple of days being as warm as they were, it just turned into alot of pressure on the lake, it just started with it being runoff, water flowing into the creek and then the top of the spillway started kicking out water, next thing you know, everyone is heading down to the road garage to start the sandbagging process.  the hospital and dialysis center almost flooded, they did manage to get out fast enough to divert the water from those two places but came very close to losing them, water is flowing over the highway right in town, 24 hour watch on the dam and hospital, i know they are still sandbagging, was out of town all day in minot so not sure what the situation is right now, will try and post some pics to let you know what it looks like.

Murdock,

With the upcoming releases out of Darling, that ice is going to start getting quite iffy.  Everyone should be careful if they are planning on playing on the Souris for the rest of the winter.

If it stays cold now for a while, Belcourt is gong to be a ice disaster.  I feel for them having to deal with that mess this early.
