Just wondering how the access is fo the lake and how thick the ice is. Thinking of heading out this weekend.

Tried Alkaline today for 7 - 8 hours.   Ice a solid 10 inches.   Must have drilled 30+ holes different depths over 1/2 mile of shore, along the SW shore of the north lake.  Only a couple of small walleyes on minnows near dark. Two strikes on the smelt tip ups despite a few billion Northers in that lake.  Maybe smelt/herring too big?   Try red cloverdale hot dogs - could work for Rockets!?!.   But overal beautiful day but fishing slow.
Some locals moving permanent houses out now.  Slow for them, too,

This lake is getting to be the Devils Lake of south central ND. They have dug a few ditches to eleviate pressure which will cause this lake to drain into Lake Isabel, which is about 12 miles away. Have never seen so much water in a lake that was about 3 feet deep when I was a kid, and is now about 26 feet deep. Lot of land getting swallowed up.

Was down last week Sept 6.  Go in via the road 5 miles north of Napoleon.  Only two other boats there.   Caught lots of walleyes from 16 - 18 inches and some 4 - 6  pound  Northerns.    Lots of fun but nothing big.   Eater sized walleyes once you picked thorugh the smaller ones.  Regular spinners, propeller spinners and Linde rigs with crawlers.

Yes, the fishing at Alkaline is as good as always. But the catch 22 to fishing there is you gotta do a lot of walking or backtracking down farm roads and section lines. The southern access road is washed away and partly underwater. My dad and I went down there at the end of May equipped with waders and made the long walk to the boat dock area. Once we were there and got set up, things started right away. Pike action on both the bottom and bobber. We also caught a few decent walleyes on jigs. The bite was on pretty much all day, and only slowed for a bit around noon. Pretty much just catch and release but we kept a few for the freezer. If you live a long way from Alkaline be warned that you will likely have to walk from the farm on the west end... walk through mud and some water. Be careful if you try to wade the raod because it is washed away in areas and the underwater portions are tough to see.

FYI to save gas for you folks.    The road to lake Alkaline is washed out and CLOSED.   The only way into is some crazy back trails from Dawson (thanks to Bill Hoffer and his wife) we were able to get there.  Fishing was great as pressure is zippo.  Much thanks to the Hoffer's for helping us out.

Did a scouting trip to Alkaline yesterday.  Lake still 99% covered with ice.  Tried smelt, minnows and spoons along the road on the SW of the lake.   Only one hammer handle pike in a couple hours fishing.    Pretty dead, likely with cold front anfter cold front and unsettled weather.   Road south of Tappen muddy and barely passable.

Went out Sat. 12 till about 4:30, caught about 12 northerns, lost count they were hitting pretty good. They were all pretty small though, maybe 1 or 2 lbs., lost a couple bigger ones, they broke the line. Caught one walleye about 18", had alot of little bites maybe perch. Used a snowmobile and was way out from the ramp in about 19' of water. Ice was about 18-20 in. nice snowpack on ice didn't sink in. Don't know how it will be after tomorrow. Road from Tappen was pretty muddy and slimy by the time I left going 40 and still sliding around going up hills and on the flats.

Has anyone got any reports for Alkaline Lake?  I would like to make a trip there this month but I would appreciate any advance information.  How has the fishing been this year?  Is the sunken road still the place to go?  Also, does anyone have any experience with the fishing in September?  Have the walleyes moved to deeper water yet?  Any information you could share would be appreciated.  Thank you in advance.

Dead sea. Sunday 3 of us limited out on pike.... today not even a bite, no matter what we used. Pike are spawned out and drifting lazily near shore in a trance.
