A very difficult night

Last night I had to put down my 14 year old black lab.  He was a very loyal and special friend.  It was one of the most difficult things I have ever done.  His heart was failing and he let me know yesterday morning that it was time.  Hunting season will be very strange this fall as I also buried my hunting partner and friend of 19 years in March.  He died from cancer at 51.  I write this as I need to tell others about it for my own sake but also to remind everyone not to take each season for granted.  Last fall I took pictures and video of the last hunt with my friend and the last roosters my dog retreived.  Cherish today for there may not be a tomorrow.  As the new hunting season draws closer I hope every one realizes the privilege and special relationships hunting provides to us.  Hunt safe and appreciate the moment as they do not last forever.  Thanks for listening....

sounds like a very difficult night, indeed.  i experienced the same thing, with my lab of 14 years, last spring.  i still think of her pretty much every day and remember the different hunting and fishing trips we had together.  be thankful for the memories of all the hunts and trips the two of you had together.  how right you are, about not taking for granted the friendships and relationships we form in the outdoors.  someday, the two of you will hunt again.  until then just cherish the memories and photos you have.

Very sorry to hear about your puppies.  Just be thankful for such a long time with those dogs you were able to have.
